He is Kazekage first and a father second.
Because he is Kazekage, his village comes before his family, and he assumes that it is alright. He finds it hard to explain this to his three year old daughter who possessed blond hair and bright eyes, why 'daddy' wasn't home most of the time. He had missed her years as an innocent teetering toddler, and he knew it. Living in Suna forces the younger ones to grow up faster than they really should, and she had blossomed into a lovely, strong kunoichi without his knowledge. A kunoichi who would do anything for the country that she loves, led by a man who she doesn't know; The man whom she calls 'Father'.
He is Kazekage first and a father second.
That is what he tries to explain to his elder son, who didn't have a real father to look up to or play catch with. He wondered if the lack of attention was what spurred him to don a cat suit, put on purple make up, and play with dolls. His first son's early years were a disappointment for him; the father who was there for everyone but his own offspring. Looking at him now, disappointment was the last thing to describe him as he was now one of the best puppet users among the five great hidden villages. Indeed, he is now one of the best shinobi in Sunagakure, alongside his sister, even though his relation with his ever powerful father was non-existent.
He is Kazekage first and a father second.
That is his excuse for trying to assassinate his littlest one, who has black rings around his eyes because he doesn't sleep, and shocking red hair which neither his father nor mother has. For the safety of the village, he had put a monster into what was supposed to be his precious son, which was the cause of said insomnia, and for the sake of the village, he had to kill it; no longer a 'him' for monsters do not have such honorifics. He has to face the bewildered sadness in his eyes, as his own father attempted again and again to take his life. But even now, the monster had exceeded all his expectations. Years of hatred which he had helped build up crumbled by a hyperactive blue-eyed, blonde-haired boy, who despite being a monster like his red-head son, led people to lean on to him. He was Kazekage too, now. Just like his old man, whom he either hated and despised or could care less of. He expected no less.
He was Kazekage first, and a father second.
Because of his responsibilities to his village, he was too easily murdered in the hands of a snaky sannin and leaving his children once and for all, orphans. But it doesn't matter, not really. After all, they've lived that way all their lives.
