The Week After The Election

'Twas the week after the election
And all through the country,
Not a single voter knew, not even John Gountry
The ballets were count by machine with care
In hopes there'd soon be a new president there

The candidates were all nesstled, all snugg in their beds
While dreams of power danced in their heads
All except Florida,
Every state was in,
There choice for prez. had been cast in

When down there in Florida
There arose such a clatter
All the news teams went to see what was the matter
Away to their vans, they made a mad dash
With all of their cameras, they were there in a flash

The light of the sun, gave away to a new day
And still no president to lead the way
When to our wondering eyes should appear
A man suggesting four more years
We knew in a moment it was Bill Clinton

Faster than a cheetah, their lawyers came
They shouted and argued while calling names
"Recount! Revote! They all demand. To the supreme
court they go. Deadline after deadline come and go
With still no president to lead the country
Still though they keep going to court

Cause you see, down there in Florida
They were confused by a butterfly ballet
Even though it was quite simple
Gore wanting to count every little dimple

Follow the arrows, they could not do
So they voted for the wrong person
Now the country is like a zoo
Without a prez, people don't know what to do

And then finally from down there we heard a result
We wait while the candidates consult
Bush had won, which everyone could see
But of course, Gore couldn't let it be

Gore all dressed in a suit, to go to court
With no thought to ever abort
"Concede" to Gore, they all shout
Suddenly nobody knows Naders where abouts

In denial, about the lose, is Gore
A loser he is, very sore
As he continues to dattle
To try to win the battle

Everybody hopes it'll all be over by
The Fourth of July
But with the way things are going
No signs of stopping are showing
With each new day
More the people say
To do the country a good deed
And for Gore to just concede

Once again, off to court they go
And the election continues to go slow
But finally the winner was announced by the judge
While the loser holds a grudge
