The sun rose slowly upon a metal landscape. Amber rays of light shot between the metal columns of artificial dwelling places.

Coruscant.

A large, masculine figure stood atop the Jedi Temple, watching the mechanical city as it went about another morning. Wearing a large robe, the figure was mostly concealed. However, his large, apelike face stood out from under his brown hood. A shapeshifter known only as Nai, he had resided in the Temple for years. Of an unknown, yet sentient species, his past was a mystery even to himself. With the exception of a couple short, fleeting, and often nonsensical memories, there was no telling how old or how young Nai was. His character was often withdrawn and silent, but upon hours of sullen meditation, he had become very adept to tasks thrown upon him, and a resolver of most conflicts that flared up in the Temple. However, he had been taken care of by the Jedi since as long as he could remember, and possessed no force powers… or at least showed no sign of being one of the chosen.

His silence was broken by a familiar voice, "Come, to the council chamber, you must."

At this, Nai immediately shrunk into a diminutive green humanoid with pointed earlobes. His large robe draped about his changed form like linen cloth about a newborn child, "What is the matter, stuck in the air duct is Ki-Adi-Mundi's head?"

"No, no…" Yoda cackled, "In need of assistance on a special mission, the council is."

Nai shifted back into his hulking main form. Nai liked Yoda, because he was one of the few Jedi that wasn't irate whenever he chose to imitate him. In fact, the little old Jedi seemed to be amused by it.

All right, thought Nai as he followed Yoda back through the corridors of the Temple, what is it this time?...

Any suggestions? Constructive criticism? Destructive criticism? Really, people, tell me what you think of it so far! I know it was short, but it'll grow when I get time to write more of it…
