a pile of the day's bills piled at the table. the youngest brother bringing it in, scanning through it for a letter from his brother. once he found it, he threw the bills on the table and urged himself to wait for his other brother. he wanted to open the first letter they received in two weeks more than anything, but if it contained bad news he knew he couldn't tell his older brother, so he waited to read it together. the handwriting on the front was sloppy, soda's writing and just the thought of his Greek god like older brother made him smile as if he were just at work. after a while he trudged through the door, his eyes barely open. he jumped up from the couch, dropping the book he was reading with the letter in his hand. his older brother smiled at the sight of it, both of them sitting down, his recliner across from his younger brother on the couch.
"well little buddy, read it." he grinned, plastering a fake smile after a long day of work but genuinely happy for the letter. he had been more lenient with him since soda had been deployed. he opened it carefully, not wanting to reck the outside of the letter. he glanced over it, his facial expression slowly dropping and tears entering his eyes.
"what is it?" Darrel said cautiously, his head spinning by the facial expression of his brother.
"he's coming home in next week." he spurted out, his tears falling. his heart had skipped a beat, but began to pump again with power. he had tears in his eyes, hugging his brother tight. he never made that last week. getting shot right in the head. but they didn't know that then. right then was pure bliss.
