The Legend of the Flower Warrior
PROLOGUE
The girl cried out again. Jasmine could hear her desperate scream for anyone around. Her neck, spine, and cheeks were raked with the chills. Jasmine felt a tear slide down her cheek. Jasmine impaitiently wiped it away, then ducked her head, holding it with both hands. This wasn't real. This wasn't happening. Jasmine peeked over the rock and nearly screamed. A glistening gold robot was standing almost three feet away from her, its gun ready at its side.
Jasmine heard the little girl scream again. She had to do something! But Jasmine was unarmed, and a whole field of battle robots stood in her way. She clentched her fists. The only thing she had going for her was surprise.
Another cautious peek located the little girl. Tears were streaming down her cheeks. Her red hair was dirty and battered, her bright green eyes frightened and confused. The little girl was held by a bright gold robot with four arms. Two arms held her by her elbows, the other two trying unsuccessfully to cuff her.
Hesitating only a second, Jasmine leapt from her hiding place. Luckily for her, most of the robots attention was directed torwards the little girl. Jasmine rushed up, kicked one of the robot's hands, then grasped the little girl with both hands and, cradling her close to her chest, ran off.
As she had anticipated, the army was slow in reacting. They hadn't known there were two of them.Jasmine carried the girl into the city, hoping desperately that the robot's weren't stupid enough to follow. She had guessed that they wanted to study the living species on Earth before they invaded it, and they had not broguht a big enough army to invade the entire world.
The girl whimpered. Jasmine ducked into a cafe, and set the girl down on a chair.
"Hi there, I'm Jasmine. What's your name?" Jasmine asked. The little girl wiped her tears away from her face.
"Haley Wester." She sniffled. "I'm five."
"Well, Haley," Jasmine said, smiling, "You were very brave back there. Now we have to tell the police that there are mean robots coming, can you do that?" Haley nodded.
Before Jasmine could even straighten up, however, the the windows exploded everywhere and Jasmine and Haley were thrown backwards at the force. Jasmine looked up. Not again! She groaned inwardly.
"Haley, run!" Jasmine screamed. Haley ran blindly. Jasmine turned and saw one of the robots pointing at her.
Jasmine felt her body jerk and go numb. The pain was searing, yet he couldn't move any of her muscles. The last thing she remembered was hitting the floor.
