"Sonohara-san, are you alright?"
A familiar voice interrupted Anri's thought. She looked up and met the concerned face of her best friend.
"I, I'm fine. I, I am sorry, I was thinking about something."
"Eh? N, no. You don't need to say sorry. You barely touched your lunch, so I thought you're not feeling well."
Anri gave a small smile which he blushed at. She looked back at her rice and egg-roll and tried her best to concentrate digesting them.
She had been thinking about the small talk she accidentally overheard when she was in restroom earlier before Mikado cut off. It had made her stared at her own reflection in the mirror, and now it somehow refused to leave her mind alone. Mikado even caught her staring at the puddle near their legs. She took the egg-roll and chewed it before glancing back at the black-haired boy beside her.
Kami, what was it with her and this strange curiousity?
"Um… R, Ryuugamine-kun…" She started slowly.
Mikado turned his head almost immediately. "Y, yes?" He then felt worried as he realized her cheek had turned redder. "Sonohara-san, are you sure you're fine? You don't have fever, do you?"
"No, no. I'm really fine. I was just, I'm just… wondering about… something." She stuttered.
He was not usually the one who liked to push a subject, but something in her voice made him wary. "Can I help you with it? I mean, I know I can't give you many help, but at least I can try…"
Perfectly. He could actually help her problem perfectly.
She played with her chopsticks and food for another second before starting once more. "You know, um… when I was at the restroom earlier, I overheard something about… um… well, someone said boys love girls with long hair. So…" her words trailed off, could not bring herself to continue.
Mikado looked at her questioningly, clearly not getting the idea.
"So, um… what do you think, Ryuugamine-kun?"
He blinked for a second before crimson spread on his face. A girl just asked for his opinion, right? And this girl was Sonohara-san, so it mattered more. It meant she chose him of all people for an opinion, an explicit opinion, about her appearance. So wouldn't it mean she wanted to know how he thought about her? But no, wait, maybe she was just asking him as a boy in general, nothing special. Ah, no no no, if that's so then it would mean she have someone—another boy—in her mind?
He shook his head, pushing out those stupid thought out of his mind. But he still could not help himself wondering. "Um, w, why you ask it in a sudden? Does the boy you like doesn't like your hair?"
Great. What a question.
Anri startled a bit at his question, she waved her hand in denial quickly. "N, no. I'm not seeing anyone that way. I, I think I don't like anyone at this time."
"Oh." Mikado was not sure to feel relieved or sad at her statement, but he chose to take the first one.
"Um, so?"
"Uh? O-oh, that… well, um… I'm not sure about that…"
She tilted her head slightly to look at him better, and he couldn't help but blush and thought about how cute she was. The reddish-brown eyes which looked at him curiously, the soft face which had a tinge of red, the fringe which hid her forehead and the silky black hair all made her looked more and more adorable, if that was even impossible. He could not stop the words which suddenly came out of his mouth unconsciously.
"I like your hair."
Mikado and Anri blinked for another second before realization hit them in the same breath. Those four words made both of them blushed furiously, so he threw his gaze somewhere else but her.
Anri stared at her reflection on the puddle once more before smiling softly, tucking a strand of rebellious hair behind her ear shyly.
"Thank you."
