CHAPTER 1:
"Daaan..." Runo lingered whilst swinging her arms slightly, as they both walked side by side through the beautiful green park.
"Yeah?" Dan said with concern as he looked at her with his innocent chocolate brown eyes.
"Why did you leave?" Runo said quietly, but just loud enough for Kuso to hear whilst her head was lowered.
"You're still holding onto that?" Dan said with slight annoyance as he looked away, "I told you because I wanted to wind down."
"Yeah but why didn't you at least tell me?!" Runo snapped back instantly in Dan's face. But afterwards she regretted it.
"I don't know okay, but I'm back now." Dan said unsurely wishing Runo would just let it go.
"And all the other times when you ditched me." Runo mumbled but she thought Dan didn't hear.
"We've been through this." Dan sighed as he stopped, "I had to save New Vestroia, and then the Gundalian invaders came and..."
"But after you guys defeated King Zenoheld, you never came back and didn't even call. You moved away. And The only way I knew what was happening was through Julie." Runo explained.
"Well...I was busy?" Dan said unsurely.
"Wouldn't hurt to keep in contact. Because I'm pretty sure straight after you beat the Gundalian Invaders you weren't busy." Runo glared at Dan waiting for an answer.
"Well yeah, but...I forgot..." Dan murmured as he scratched his head.
"YOU FORGOT?!" Runo raged peering over him, but then she turned away; closing her eyes and muttered, "Some boyfriend you are..." as she folded her arms.
"I'm sorry, but at least were together now." Dan said peering towards Runo.
"If Mira didn't call for help, I bet I wouldn't have seen you, or even have heard from you." Runo placed her hands on her hips and turned to face Dan.
"Runo, why won't you just let it go? I said I'm sorry." Dan sighed, without any sincerity in his apology.
"Well, sorry doesn't cut it Dan Kuso." Runo frowned and folded her arms again
"What will? a pair of scissors..." Dan rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath so Runo couldn't hear.
"I don't know why I even bother." Runo said sadly with tears in her eyes as she ran out, across the road.
Suddenly Dan's eyes widened, "RUNO, WATCH OUT!" He screamed in horror; his voice echoing everywhere.
He tried to run after her, but he was to late...
The car had already slammed into her and she went skidding across the road.
Dan ran up to her and held her helplessly, blood was oozing from her head, cuts were all over her arms and legs, her blue and white t-shirt and shorts, were torn, dirty and soaked in blood. Runo's eyes would barely open.
"Runo!" He cried continuously as his heart burned with guilt and sadness as he shook her desperately. He didn't care about the blood soaking into his jeans and red jacket or it dripping down his hands, he didn't care about anything. All he cared for was Runo.
People crowded around her in horror, others had already called 911.
"Runo please, hang in there..." Dan had never sounded so desperate.
"Listen, I'm sorry. I'll never ever abandon you again & always be here. I know! It's all my fault. I'm so sorry I hurt you, I never meant to. You have every right to be mad. But I love you Runo, and I would do anything for you! Yes, I know I never express it but I really do. & I promise I'll never ever leave you again. You can hate me forever but just please be okay." Dan shook her as he poured his heart out to her in desperation, and tears slid down his cheek.
Runo faintly opened her eyes. She tried to smile but she just couldn't. But she heard every single word. She heard every single meaningful word.
"Dan...I..."
