Yep, my version of a reveal fic and again a story based on a word of the day. Enjoy!
Impugn
The throne room was filled with people, a sorcerer was being tried that day everyone wanted to be there to show Uther their overwhelming belief in his justice system.
Uther had listened to the evidence, the most influential perhaps, being that of the court physician's. Gaius had told Uther and the court that the man, called Arawn, had enchanted various members of the court to act strangely. These poor victims included, Bethan, one of the maids of the castle, and Merlin, Arthur's idiot of a manservant, both of whom had been made to appear as if they were using magic.
This was, Gaius explained, part of a plot to cause distrust among the court and hopefully make it easier to conquer.
But as the sorcerer was dragged away he shouted "Uther you fool, there is a sorcerer right under your nose. Him!" The sorcerer pointed dramatically at the Prince's servant.
"Him?" Asked the King. "But he's an idiot, and we have already proven that you faked him being a sorcerer. Really if you want to get out of this you should really try changing your tune."
"Yeah, if he really was a sorcerer as you say he is then why hasn't he tried to take over Camelot by now?" Asked Arthur. "And anyway he can't keep a secret without his face doing that weird twitchy thing. So it would be clear to everyone that he was a sorcerer."
"And if he was a sorcerer then how come we haven't seen him? Huh, it's not like he disappears every time something magical happens." Said Gwaine, his eyes widening with disbelief at his last sentence.
"And it's not as if I get knocked out whenever there's an overwhelming chance that we might die, but when I wake up everything is fine!" Arthur's tone of voice changed from cheerful to accusing, and he turned to face Merlin, his tone of voice reflected on his face.
Then together they joined in, "And it's not at all like mysterious fires spring up whenever there's a problem!" At this point they each grabbed an arm of Merlin's and dragged him off. The rest of the court stared after the trio, before moving on to other things.
Lancelot, Elyan and Leon however kept their eyes on the door where the three men had exited the room.
"Well that took long enough." Said Leon.
"I still can't believe it took them that long." Replied Elyan, counting a small pile of coins into Lancelot's palm.
"But didn't I tell you that they'd probably work it out at the same time. I mean it wasn't too bad for Gwaine, considering the amount of pickling his brain's gone through, but Arthur? I mean how long has he been in close contact with Merlin for? Four or five years? And he's supposed to lead a country one day?" Lancelot shook his head despairingly.
"Well being so close to him probably helped to mask everything. I mean the only reason I worked it out was because my sister tells me everything." He looked at Lancelot, to make sure that he knew, that he knew everything. "And there were so many obvious hints in the letters she sent me, well it was obvious."
"Yeah, I suppose when you get everything written down for you, you don't even need to see Merlin ordering a dragon to leave when he thinks you're dead, to realise he has magic." Said Leon. "Anyway, I owe Percival a pint, come on you two."
So yes Gwaine doesn't notice because he's drunk all the time . . . I may have a problem with making Gwaine drunk . . . He appears to be drunk whenever I mention him!
