Gabrielle sat with her arms around her knees at the stern of the ship bringing her back to Athens. She starred out at the sea. Her breath caught as she felt an otherworldly presence and she let out a relieved sigh when her heart told her it was Xena.
"Hi."
Gabrielle turned and gave her a weak smile.
"Do remember when we first met?" **when I was always trying to keep us apart. I never thought then that we'd be stronger together, but we are. I'm sorry Gabrielle.**
"Of course!" laughed Gabrielle, "How could I forget? It was like only the most important day of my life. The day I decided to fallow a warrior."
"Me?"
"Yah you." She turned to punch Xena in the arm then stopped as she saw her fist go through Xena's body.
"Oh, Xena! I'd give anything to feel you again." She turned away from Xena and the comfort she could not give. "I don't want to go on without you."
"Gabrielle, you promised!" Xena spoke angrily but mostly she was angry with herself and the empty shell of a body she had as a ghost. Supposedly ghost could feel no pain, but it was torture beyond anything she knew not to be able to comfort her beloved. Suddenly she felt herself harden as warm blood flowed through her veins once more.
Gabrielle felt her first breath tease the hair around her ear. She turned and flung her arms around Xena's neck
"Hey do you want to choke me to death already?"
Gabrielle moved back wonder evident in her face.
"Your alive!"
"No, or only for a little while" Xena chucked.
"Why?"
"My last wish. The gods owe me some and this is actually pushing it."
Gabrielle nodded her head and turned to lean against her best friends shoulder.
"Thanks."
"For what?" asked Xena
"You honestly don't know, do you?" Real amazement widened her eyes. "I think you become dumber every time you die.
"Yah, I'm just your regular dumb cadavor."
"Xena! I'm not joking." She scolded.
Xena tapped on the nose and smiled. "I know."
"So, what are you thanking me for?" she asked as she put her arm around Gabrielle's shoulder.
"Everything"
"Everything?"
"Of course! For coming back all those times. For letting the total child I was in the beginning tag-a-long. For being so good!"
"I'm only good because of you."
Xena looked down at the same time as Gabrielle looked up and there eyes met. Then Xena leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips. An eternity went by.
"Goodbye"
"No, not yet" Gabrielle grabbed Xena's arm as she stood up. Xena gripped her hand and pulled her up. "Gabrielle, look at me. I'm not leaving. We're soul bonded. I'm in your heart and your in mine."
She was nothing but a ghost again and even that flickered. Her ghost hand reached out and touched Gabrielle's chest right above the heart and dissapeared.
