Hello, hello, this story is obviously a one shot. However I will consider expanding it to a full story if requested.
This is based directly on my first play through of Emerald and the pokemon contained here is the actual team I used, enjoy.
I wasn't going to be able to sleep tonight, I knew it deep inside. I didn't hear her but I knew she was there, behind me standing just inside the doorway. "Go back to bed Jasmine." I said without looking.
The breeze from the sea brought the smell of salt to my nose but not only that. Mossdeep was a beautiful place. Flowers dotted the area like a Picasso painting and trees that bloomed in every color, it was beautiful. Especially at night, the full moon slowly traced an unseen path through the sky.
I felt a blanket as it was draped over my shoulders, and thin arms looping around my chest. "Jasmine, I need to think." I sighed. She knew I was troubled, the only one too. Sakura would fight to the death for me, same for Ace. Even Ben would give up a wing before letting me down. But only my gardevoir could understand what was going on inside my head.
"Come on master, you need rest." Her soft, strange voice whispered in my head. I gently shook her off. My hands found the balcony railing and I bent over. "I've never had this much trouble." I admitted. Four times I had faced Tate & Liza and four times I had failed. "Maybe I'm not cut out to be the champion."
I felt her hand rest on my shoulder, and watched as her body came into my vision. "You must rest master, we all need it." She gently turned me around and guided me to the room. "If I must I will hypnotize you." She said with a twinge of humor, I chuckled a little at that, because I knew she would. She led me into the hotel room and angled me to the bedroom.
I passed Sakura sleeping spread eagle on the couch. Above her sat Ben with his talons dug lightly into the canvas as not to tear it. My first, Sakura I remember when she was a torchic just barely able to fight for herself. Now she was bigger than me and way more powerful than I would ever dream. Ben was far less loyal, and defied me every chance he got. Many a time I've been hit by a rogue tornado during training, but never during a fight. In a fight I wouldn't want any other flying type than my swellow.
As I entered the bedroom Ace raised his canine head and gave me a look that bordered on concern. Ace was the opposite of Ben in every way. He never questioned me, and would watch the world burn before hearing a disapproving word from me. I rubbed his ears as I passed and laid down on the bed. I felt the bed give ever so slightly as Jasmine sat beside me and drew up the blanket to cover me. I fell asleep eventually, with Jasmine beside me and Ace at my feet.
The next morning I woke up at eight, and got out of bed slowly as not to wake my pokémon. I glanced back to see Ace stretch and yawn before hopping down off the bed to follow me, tail wagging.
I made it to the kitchen and put on a pot of tea, and took a quick shower as it boiled. My fearless mightyena standing guard outside the door. My mind wandered again to the gym leaders. "You are much stronger than last time we met, Simon. I hope you're not pushing your pokémon to hard." May's voice echoed through my thoughts. Was she right? Am I asking too much? I'm better than my father but at what cost? If I can't beat two eight year old girls then how can I call myself the best?
"If it helps, we all think you're the best." Jasmine's voice pierced my thoughts from behind the closed door. "Master, the tea was ready, so I turned off the stove. If you hurry it will still be hot." Thank you Jasmine. "Not a problem, master. You seem to be in a slightly better mood than last night."
I had found her as a ralts, beaten to a bloody pulp by a pack of wild poochyena. She probably would've died if I didn't trip over her almost a year ago. I took her in and nurtured her, training her to be stronger. After about a month the care I gave her made her evolve, two months later she became the gardevoir she is today. She had made short work of Brawly and Winona without even exerting any true power.
I stepped out and put on my jeans before exiting the bathroom. "Sakura, Ben start waking up. We've got a lot of training today." I slid my undershirt on as I passed. Sakura opened one eye and shot me a look similar to a teenager being woken up for high school. "Don't start with me." I said rather crossly.
She yawned and sat up, then sat in a very human slumped pose on the edge of the couch. Sakura glanced at Ben, who had ignored me completely and stayed at his perch, and chortled him. To this Ben opened his eyes and replied with what I was certain was a witty comeback. The result was a halfhearted left jab that knocked Ben off the couch. "Save it for training today." I called from the kitchen.
I poured the tea into a small mug and sipped. "Today we're going to focus on each of you working with Ace. As a dark type he is the best one to fight Tate & Liza. Also, Jasmin I've decided to teach you shadow ball." I held up a small disc. "With this you should make short work of claydol." I downed the rest of my tea and motioned to a large bowl of fruit and a slab on dried meat on the table. "Eat up."
