Disclaimer: I don't own NCIS or anything associated with it. No money is being made from this work. Also, I messed around with the NCIS timeline. So, there will be familiar elements, they just may not be in the order, or context from the actual show. Additionally, this is an AU and slight crossover story. So, please, no attacks about how this didn't happen in the show, or that this character "would never do that." Finally, if you are a fan of Abby, McGee, Ziva, or Gibbs, be prepared for slight (but not continual) character bashing.
Fiction (n) – invention or fabrication as opposed to fact.
Prologue – Establishing A New World
In order to understand this story, I wanted to give you all a chapter dedicated to establishing the AU world that the characters are living in.
Note 1: This story will have a "Sentinel and Guide" aspect. The majority of the world population identifies as either a "Sentinel" or a "Guide." The minor percentage of people who do not identify as such are often studied, and labeled as "Anoms" (short for "Anomalies"]
Note 2: "Anomalies" are considered different. They are not necessarily outcasts, but because people are not sure how to classify them, they are equally unsure of how to treat them. For the most part, they are accepted members of society, but [as it is in real life] there are those who look down on them.
Note 3: Like most "Sentinel and Guide" stories, every "sentinel" needs a "guide" and vice-versa. However, in rare cases "sentinels" can link with other "sentinels" and "guides" can link with other "guides."
Note 4: Every "sentinel" and "guide" has a spirit animal. That's usually how links are made. If the spirit animals are compatible, then so are the respective "sentinel" and "guide" pairing.
Note 5: Spirit animals can take any regular [or, in very rare cases, magical] animal form, and the form says a lot about person. [e.g. A person with a wolf for a spirit animal has good instincts and can be predatory in nature].
Note 6: People can touch spirit animals. That said, spirit animals can hurt a person. [e.g. if a person with a snake for a spirit animal wants to, they can "encourage" their animal to bite/poison an enemy.
