Chapter One
"My dear Clary, it's time to wake up." Jocelyn Fairchild purred. Clary rolled around in her sleep and finally peeled one eye open.
"What is it, Mom?"She groaned. Laughing, Jocelyn stroked her hair and said, "It's your wedding day today." Hearing that, Clary sat bolt upright and shouted, "Oh my goodness! Am I late?" Shaking her head, she climbed out of bed in her pyjamas and ran into the bathroom. Seeing her own ghastly reflection, she shrieked. Her hair was like a bird's nest and she still had that pimple from last week on her chin. How was she supposed to get married like this, there was no time to get dressed, do her hair and put on make-up at all!
"Don't worry dear, you're not. The wedding starts in 4 hours." Jocelyn reassured. Clary went back into her bedroom and glanced at the clock. It read 5 AM. Letting out a sigh of relief, she turned to her mother and asked, "Then why wake me up at this timing?"
"Today, Clary, I am marrying you to Jace Herondale, and the Herondales are a mischievous bunch. I need to give you advice." Jocelyn said sternly.
"Mom, what? What's this about?" Clary asked, confused. Sure, Jace was mischievous, but he wasn't THAT bad, and she was pretty sure the rest of his family wasn't either. It didn't matter though, his family was gone.
"I was joking, Clary. Loosen up, you look like you're suffocating." Jocelyn laughed, and smile kindly at her. Clary WAS indeed suffocating. She was suffocating under the pile of pressure, due to the wedding. Although she had looked forward to this, it was still quite nerve-wrecking. Rubbing her eyes with the back of her palm, she yawned and climbed back under the covers. "Mom, I just need some time to myself so that I can calm down, please." Jocelyn slipped out of the room and came back minutes later with a cup of hot chocolate. It reminded Clary of the time when she was drinking hot chocolate overseas with her evil brother, Sebastian.
"Clary, even though you're getting married, I want you to know that you'll always be my little girl forever, and nothing can change that. However, because you're MY little girl, I want you to take care of yourself. No more being bull-headed. Listen to Jace, he'll know what's best for you."
"Says the woman who just insulted Jace Herondale." Clary retorted. Jocelyn sighed, and said, "See, there you go again. I mean it, listen to Jace." She snuggled up to Clary, and wrapped her arms around her. "I love you, Clary, I really do."
"I love you too, mom." Soon, Clary fell asleep in the warmth of her mother's embrace and had a peaceful 1-hour nap.
