"Hey, look up, idiot,' 'A familiar voice called out from within memories, snapping a blonde boy out of his reverie. The child stared into the sky and spotted a familiar looking cloud.
"That cloud, it looked just like the toy fox Kurama won for me at the annual carnival three years ago."
He recalled the many fun times he had with his twin brother, of him scowling in annoyance and a tad bit of jealousy as his brother landed a trout, of him whining embarrassedly as his brother ruffled his hair and made it messier, and of his farewell…
He knew that they would be the prime candidates as the sacrifice for the presiding demon lord ruling over the village they lived in. After all, why sacrifice a child from a family, when you can simply choose one orphan? There was once a village which had fought against that demon lord and his many minions, yet they were crushed instantaneously like feeble grasshoppers before a mighty storm. There were no survivors. Other villages took stock of the helpless situation they were in, and submitted in fear of being wiped out as well.
Too weak to revolt, they bend to the demons' tyrannical rule. The most despicable one, of having a child sacrifice every decade or else the village would be eradicated, stole his brother.
"It should have been me…"Naruto sighed despondently as he glanced at the fading sunset.
As if hearing distant laughter, Naruto's eyes turned steely blue. "I promise that I will avenge you soon, my brother."
