Goodnight Sammy By: BrokenHeartsShatteredDreams Here it was. The end. The very thing I'd fought against for so long now. I stood, tears blurring my vision, with the gun raised at my baby brother's chest. Everything inside of me was screaming at me and I fought against it, fought against everything I was because this was what had to happen. The man standing before me...he wasn't my baby brother anymore. He'd become what he'd never wanted to be and I had a promise to keep. Still, my finger hesitated over the trigger. How could I do this? How could I shoot him? My baby brother...the only thing I had left in this world. My heart hammered and I clenched my eyes shut for a moment, repressing the sobs that threatened to burst out of me. In front of me, my brother's voice sounded. It was the first time he'd taken control in weeks and the sound nearly sent me hurtling to my knees. I opened my eyes and he was staring at me, his own eyes bright with tears as he begged me to do it. "Dean. You have to do this. You have to kill me. I...I can't keep control much longer." Tears dripped down his face and I wanted to reach out and wipe them away. "I can't. Sammy...you're all I have left. How can you ask me to do this? There has to be another way! I...I can't lose you too." He didn't have another chance to say anything. I saw it the second he lost the fragile control he'd held. My baby brother retreated again, moving out of my reach again. For good this time. Tears streamed down my face as I squeezed the trigger, watching as the bullet smashed into Sammy's chest. His eyes cleared, a smile forming on his face. He was gone. My baby brother was gone. For good this time. I closed my eyes, letting my knees hit the floor as sobs wracked my body. I was alone. For the first time in my entire life I was truly alone. Castiel was dead...Sammy...Dad...Bobby...Jo...Ellen...they were all dead and I had nothing left. Slowly, I raised the gun I still held in my right hand and held it against my temple. Grabbing Sammy's hand in my own, I gave him one last smile before whispering to him. "Goodnight Sammy."
