They are Free

Evie was thirsty. But it was dark. She slipped out of bed, and turned the light on. (She was afraid of the dark, you see.) She tiptoed down the steps, making sure to skip the creaky ones do as not to wake anyone up.

She passed the living room, making sure to turn on as many lights as possible as she went, and grabbed a cup from the cupboard. Her kitchen window looked out onto her garden. With all the lights on, it all looked very dark.

Something crunched outside. Evie jumped. She scolded herself for being so paranoid and brushed the sound off, it must only be a fox or a squirrel or something.

Suddenly, she heard a roar in the distance. Foxes and squirrels don't roar. Dinosaurs and lions do. But they're all contained. The crunching grew louder, turning to sickening cracking of tiles. Something came into her view. A large face. With huge teeth. It stomped towards her, looking as if it could feel her terror. Evie would have run if she wasn't paralysed to the spot. The dinosaur banged it's head against the glass, sending snaking cracks down it. It crashed into the window again, this time shattering it completely.

Now, Evie could run. And so she did. She was running for her life, and she knew that. She didn't look back.
