A/N: Hi there! So in this very short story, I decided to play around with the dialogue that's from the show. Enjoy!
Game of Life
Ozpin sat in his office on a comfy armchair. In front of him on the coffee table was his fresh cup of coffee and a chess board. Slightly off to the side, was a long mirror.
"Ozpin." A voice said, coming from the mirror. A figure appeared in the mirror. Ozpin didn't even bother looking at the visitor. He already knew who it was; after all, they have been doing this for years.
"Salem." Ozpin said, reaching for his cup and taking a sip. He set the cup back down onto the table and looked at the ghostly woman. Her eyes glowed bright red as brown eyes made contact with them.
"Now, where were we?" Salem asked. The chess pieces floated onto the board. On Ozpin's side, there were two knight pieces, one rook, one king, and eight pawns. On Salem's side were one king and queen, two rooks, and eight pawns. Salem surveyed the board before she spoke again. "Oh yes, I have killed your Queen."
Ozpin's eyes hardened at the memory of the queen piece being crushed into dust. He studied the board, pondering his next move. His line of pawns formed a small zig-zag and behind the formation stood the remaining pieces. Ozpin noted how Salems' pieces took over half of the board. Every piece was spread out all across the board, creating an air of dominance.
"Go on. Send your guardians, Ozpin." Salem gestured at the board. "But just know that even the most brilliant lights will eventually flicker and die."
~A Few Months Later~
"How does it feel? Your guardians have failed you. Everything you have carefully built is being torn down." Salem gave a sinister smile.
Ozpin frowned. He only had his two knight pieces, one rook and king. His pawns have been destroyed into dust like the others. Over on Salem's side stood one rook, queen, king, and three pawns.
"You seem to forget that victory is in the simpler things that you've long forgotten; things that require a smaller, more honest soul." Ozpin said calmly.
"Of course, a single spark can ignite hope after all." Salem said. She smiled as Ozpin reached over and picked up a knight piece. Ozpin ran his thumb over the small details as he twirled it around. "Just know that you send her to the same pitiful demise." Ozpin stopped twirling the knight piece. Surprisingly he smiled at her.
"I've made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this planet, Salem. But I believe that this isn't one of them." Ozpin said as he took out a pawn with the knight piece.
"We'll see about that. Darkness will return, and until then, I can't wait to watch you burn."
