Fitz couldn't even remember how the fight had started, it was something stupid, but it had escalated. Now they were screaming insults at each other.
"Yeah? Well, I don't know how Simmons has been able to stand you for so long! You must have used some kind of experiment on her to keep her around. Hell, you probibly did the same thing to me!" Ward yelled. "After all, how could you get us to tolerate you otherwise?"
"Don't you dare bring her into this! And is that all this is to you? You 'tolerate' me?" Fitz yelled back, tears springing to his eyes, but he didn't want to cry in front of Ward. "Well, you know what you can love? Sleeping alone!" He turned and ran away, keeping back his tears until he reached Simmons room.
She opened the door to him, and got an armful of sobbing scientist.
It took about two hours for her to get Fitz to tell her what had happened, and then he had to physically restrain her to keep her from trying to find Ward and … he didn't even know what she was going to do, but it wouldn't have been pretty.
He eventually fell asleep in Simmons' bed. Some time around midnight Ward knocked on the door. When he had seen that Fitz wasn't in his own room or the lab, he knew this was were he would be.
Simmons answered the door, and promptly tried to shut it in Ward's face. He stuck his food in before she could though. "Simmons, I know you're mad, but please let me talk to him." Ward begged, only to revive a hard slap to the face.
"The only thing keeping me from screaming at you right now is that he is sleeping." Simmons whisper yelled at him.
He held a hand to his cheek, covering the place he had been slapped. That had hurt a surprising amount considering how small Simmons was, and her lack of fighting experience. "I know. I would deserve it. I was terrible, but please let me try to get him to forgive me." He said with a pleading tone.
She was still glaring at him with fire in her eyes. "Fine. If you hurt him again you won't ever be able to have sex again. There will be nothing there for it." She threatened, and something told him she meant it. She stormed off soon after saying that.
"Leo. Leo, wake up." Ward said softly, taking a seat on the edge of the bed Fitz was curled up on.
Fitz's eyes slowly opened and for a moment he looked confused, before realization hit him, and he sat up quickly. "What are you doing here, Grant?" He asked, glaring at Ward through eyes that were still slightly red from crying.
"Trying to apologize. Leo, I am so sorry. I never should have said any of that stuff to you. It was terrible of me. That fight got out of hand and I'm so so sorry." Ward said, cupping Fitz's face in his hands and meeting Fitz's eyes steadily as he spoke.
"It … it wasn't entirely your fault. I yelled mean things at you too." Fitz mumbled.
"Yes, but I crossed a line. And I'm sorry."
"I forgive you. Let's just try not to do the same thing again." Fitz said, placing a light kiss to Ward's lips.
