"Come on... Come on," Courage yelled out in frustration as he turned the power switch on and off repeatedly.
"Work!"
The panicked dog had been waiting impatiently for Computer to boot up for almost five whole minutes now. After the first minute or so, Courage's panic had been brought to a boil and he resorted to repeatedly flicking the power switch, though it had quickly proven to be a hopeless endeavor. Computer had remained unresponsive all the while.
Trembling paws reached over to the power switch again. There was no time for this! If Computer didn't wake up soon, Muriel would...
Growing desperate, the shaking dog tapped on the screen a couple times, as if to attempt to catch the machine's attention, despite the obvious fact that the machine could not hear him. He began to scream.
"Wake up! Wake up... Please!"
Aside from Courage's own hysterical gibberish, the attic was filled with a stifling silence. Nothing moved except for the dust particles that had always occupied the barren room. Even the Computer's fans were off, leaving a deathly quiet surrounding the two of them.
For a moment Courage forced himself to stop babbling so he could collect himself. Tears had begun to sting his puffy over-sized eyes. For those few agonizing seconds, neither dog nor machine made a single sound. The only thing Courage could hear was his own heart racing, pounding with his own terror for his beloved owner's life, growing faster with each passing second.
Every second that crawled by was more time wasted. Muriel was downstairs with a monster, the likes of which Courage had never seen. He had no good way to describe it, other than that it was horrifying. He needed to save Muriel, and right now he needed help from his cynical computer in order to do that. He continued to wait with baited breath, hoping for a reaction from his unresponsive machine.
Nothing. Not a beep, not a flicker of the screen, not a whir of the fans... Nothing.
Finally, Courage gave up. The hopelessly helpless dog clutched his ears and let out a shaky howl before half-sliding, half-stumbling off of the chair and rushing out the door as fast as his tiny pink paws could carry him.
Behind him, the once-black screen of the Computer lit up with a beep. Letters trailed silently across the blue-green backdrop.
'SYSTEM RESTORE SUCCESSFUL'
A/N: This was based around an idea I had at one point that I ended up writing out. Basically, what if Computer couldn't help Courage for X reason? I left it open-ended because I'm too lazy to come up with anything to add onto it, which is also the reason why it's so short. Ah, well. That's it for now, I suppose. lol
