Sara watched intently from the other side of the glass, shocked by what she had just heard come out of his mouth. Words that expressed feeling, not just any feeling but, the deepest and truest. Love. Grissom had practically professed love for this "special someone." After pondering over who he could have meant she realized or more assumed Grissom meant her. He had turned her down less than a year ago. Her feelings were so strong for him; she knew he had to feel it too. "He just wasn't ready," she whispered to herself. This was her chance. She had to confront Grissom.
Grissom was packing up his things in his office. The lab was.silent. Everyone had gone home to get those few hours of sleep they needed before the next shift. That was one of the most tiring cases they had in a long time. Walking toward the locker room, Grissom's head hung low. He always hated the ones that got away. Sara came walking down the hallway towards the locker room. She saw Grissom as she neared the doorway.
"Grissom!" She called from the doorframe
"Sara? What are you doing here?" He approached her slowly and laid a hand on her shoulder. She shivered at his touch. "You need to get home some sleep." Grissom spoke calmly.
"I heard what you said in the interrogation room."
"Wow. I. I'm embarrassed," he said taking a seat on the bench.
"No, no don't be." Sara replied sitting down next to him, "I'm glad you finally said it." She smiled gently. "I've been wait." he cut her off.
"Don't tell her. Please." he pleaded.
"What? Who" She looked very confused.
"Catherine. Don't tell her. If anyone tells her I want it to be me." Sara's jaw hit the floor, along with her heart. "It's taken me so long to admit my feelings to myself. I need a little time before I can confess to her." Grissom tried to smile, "I get so. nervous around her. Like a teenage boy." He chuckled and Sara tried to play along.
"Of course," she said, "well, I need to get home." Now she was losing the battle against her emotions. "Yeah, me too. See you tonight?"
"Yeah," and she was out the door.
Grissom picked up his coat and closed his locker. He felt oddly relieved after realizing everything that night. With a sigh he turned off the lights and headed for his car. By the time he was at the parking lot, Sara was on her way home.
"God, you are so stupid!" She said, letting her sobs erupt. "Of course he didn't mean you. well, you know what they say about assumptions." She said as she pulled into the corner bar parking lot.
