Scrabble Proposal
Vanessa and Warren were cuddling up on the couch in the cabin. The couple had been dating for two years, since the opening of Zzyzx, and on this particular stormy night the two were very bored.
"Vanessa, do you want to play Scrabble?" Warren asked looking down at his girlfriend.
"Why do you want to play Scrabble?" Vanessa asked Warren looking up at him.
"I think it would be fun, see what words we can come up with." Warren answered and put a pouty look on his face.
"Fine," Vanessa said. "But just one round I'm kind of getting tired." With that Warren jumped up and went to the closet, he pulled out the Scrabble game for near the bottom of a teetering pile and came back and sat by Vanessa.
They started playing, Warren did make a lot of weird words but he also seemed to be looking at a bigger picture. He had put Will diagonally in the left upper hand corner with a space behind it and then the word you then in the opposing corner he put me with a space behind it. The two went through the game like that, Vanessa trying hard to win and Warren putting letters by previous words and seeming to have some purpose in mind. Finally Vanessa went to the bathroom so Warren could finish his project using a sharpie. When Vanessa got back Warren gestured to the board so Vanessa read what he had written in Scrabble pieces:
Will you marry me?
"What?" Vanessa exclaimed and moved in for a closer look. Sure enough that is what the tiles said complete with the last space tile written on with sharpie turning it into a question mark.
Vanessa looked at Warren disbelievingly; Warren gave her a boyish smirk. Then Vanessa leaned in and kissed him, and again, and again.
"So I guess that's a yes?" Warren asked Vanessa teasingly. Vanessa grabbed three tiles and wrote another word on the board:
Y E S
"I'm happy to hear that," Warren said and leaned in to kiss Vanessa. "I love you, Vanessa Santoro."
"I love you, Warren Burgess." They kissed again, hugged and sat in each others' arms for the rest of the evening.
