A Response Sonnet to William Shakespeare's Sonnet 130
No eyes are like the sun
But are reflective and bright;
My lips are sweet though not coral red;
My skin is not as snow but is not bad to sight;
Beauty is not absent from the hair on my head;
Is there something amiss with the black of night?
The hue of my cheeks can be as a rose;
Though you would not believe so;
And my breath is not displeasing to the nose;
It is something you should know.
My voice is unique and therefore my own;
And there should be no sweeter sound for you to hear;
My stride is flowing, worthy of the thrown.
I am no goddess but with your words my heart you sear.
So I am not as plain as you state
Though I will always be your mate.
