Disclaimer: don't own 'em; don't sue me.
Summery: did anyone else notice that Archer left Trip only with guilt as a punishment? Here's my version of the final moments of Cogenitor
note: this is because when i finally saw cogenitor I was completely disappointed in Archer's usual speech.
Obviously, if you haven't seen co-genitor, you might not want to read this... and yeah, some of the tings I have here are similar to that of Archer... i just think how I've put it was more effective. Also, if Archer seems slightly off character, it's only because TPTB make him sound like a wimpy father, instead of a captain.

"Interference" by author unknown

Jonathan Archer heard the door of his room open.
"You wanted to see me sir?" Commander Tucker said softly.
Archer slowly turned, stood glaring at his Chief Engineer until it made Trip lower his head in shame. Silence ensued for several minutes. Trip squirmed uncomfortably.
"Mister Tucker." Archer said in a strained voice, pursing his lips.
Trip flinched, as if he'd been hit, but kept his eyes on the floor. Not 'Trip', not 'Commander', but 'Mister Tucker'.
"You had no right to interfere with their culture!" Archer snapped angrily. "Do you understand the repercussions of your actions?!"
"Yes." Trip replied finally meeting his Captain's glare. He bit his lip, his expression showing that he did know, and even regretted his actions.
"Do you?" Archer growled. "You knew what you were doing was wrong-- and you did it anyway."
"Yes." Trip swallowed.
Archer exhaled heavily, then he scoffed, "You've lost my trust."
"I'm sorry Cap'n." Trip whispered mournfully.
But there was no forgiveness in his superior's eyes.
Archer just shook his head. "You are hereby prohibited from any first contact missions. Furthermore, you are not allowed on an inhabited planet without myself or the Sub-Commander present with you at all times.
"For how long?" Trip exclaimed, the utter meaning of the words falling on disbelieving ears.
The Captain glared at his for his outburst. "Until further notice." Archer hissed.
"But Cap'n!" Trip protested, utter shock written across his face.
"Dismissed...Commander." He finished.

"I'm sorry that she died." Trip stood there for a moment, giving his Captain a long sideways glance. But Jonathan didn't reply. Tucker did as he was told, pushing the button to activate the door and it slid open with a hiss.

"But I'm /not/ sorry that I interfered." Trip replied caustically, letting the door slide closed behind him.

"He did not just undermine my authority?" Archer spoke to himself.
Please review-- it only takes a few minutes, and it makes me feel better.
