- Ghost
Splash! Droplets of water leap from the lake as the small feline leaped into it. She was going to catch it this time. She swam with a purpose, using all her strength as so that she could catch it. As it leaped from the water so did she, taking great bounds. Closer and closer she got, until she was so close she could almost taste sweet, sweet victory. As she prepared to strike, she was suddenly flung backwards. The feline was confused. What had stopped her? That's when the fog set in. It's tentacles wrapped around her as they slithered throughout the forest, swallowing it. Her determination relentless, she began her search for the creature once more. Thinking the feline had found it, she dropped to a crouch, slowly pushing herself forward. She leaped, only to let out a scream as it leaped back at her, it's jaws open and waiting for a feast. She scrambled, twisting in the air and barely missing it. She took off running, hearing it growl out her name. "Athena... Athena..." It whispered as it looked for her, and as she turned to look behind her and looked back.. "Athena!"
She woke with a jolt, her green eyes wide and teary. As her vision adjusted she saw her mom hovering over her, hissing at her to wake up. "M-momma?" She whispered, shaking. Her mother hushed her, nudging her out of the nest. "Come on honey, we have to leave..." Her mother whispered. "W-why?" Athena sniffled, still shaken from her dream. That's when a loud bang echoed throughout the house. Athena cried out, and she heard footsteps begin to make their way towards them. Her mother had wasted no time, grabbing her as they bolted from the house. "Momma wait! Where are we going?!" She cried. Her mother didn't respond, running as fast and as hard as she could. Athena didn't understand any of it. She kicked and squirmed, desperate to go back to her warm bed at home. Yet her mother wouldn't let her go. Finally giving up, the small kitten closed her eyes, letting herself go limp as she fell back into a dreamless sleep.
A distraught feline sighed as she picked up two mice, padding through the forest. Her yellow eyes were dull from exhaustion, and her ribs poked out from underneath her fur. Yet she constantly went out to retrieve meals, never stayed in one place for more then a day. All for the little treasure she had waiting back at home. Claire, her name was. Nothing nearly as beautiful as her daughter's, yet she was grateful for her daughter to even be alive. It had been rough on both of them, with Athena barely being able to walk more then a mile without collapsing. They were almost there though. Soon, it would be worth it. Or so she hoped. As she entered the makeshift den, a weak smile managing to creep it's way along her face as she set the mice down. Her daughter was the most precious thing she had, and she would do anything just to make sure she got her meal. While Athena really didn't like the mice at first, she was slowly adjusting to their new life. All Claire could do now was hope that her efforts would be enough to let at least one of them survive through the next two nights. With that jolly thought in her head, Claire closed off the den entrance, curling up around her daughter as she drifted off to sleep.
