Chapter 1: Moscow
Disclaimer: I do not own Metro whatsoever.
Moscow, Russia
They managed to slip by right under the noses of the guards, at least until a confrontation could no longer be avoided that is. Both Arytom and his wife, Anna rushed through the enemies, swiftly disposing of them with little problems. Their shots never seeming to miss, especially Anna's, a one of a kind sniper who was irreplaceable.
With guards appearing one after another, the duo kept moving forward, shooting at whoever stood in their way. Hurrying, they arrived beside the train, taking cover when shouting could be heard. A barrage of bullets began raining down on them shortly after. Although, the bullets came to a sudden halt when Artyom and Anna took them out in no time at all.
"Help me out here, Artyom! Let's do this together," Anna suggested as she grabbed one side of the wheel.
Artyom simply nodded, grabbing the other side as they turned the wheel together.
It was stubborn, perhaps from the rust but they were able to get it working after a few turns, and once they were done, the train began to slowly start advancing.
"Run!" The raven-haired female said, making a sprint towards the train.
More guards arrived on scene and began shooting once again. Artyom then followed in pursuit of Anna and the train, running alongside it in order to catch up.
"Artyom?" She called out as her head popped out of the train car. "Come on!" She extended her hand out towards him, grabbing it and pulling him aboard.
He heaved out a small sigh, and mumbled her a small "thanks" of gratitude.
She smiled in return, glad that they were both able to make it aboard without getting hurt. How many unlucky scenarios had they managed to scrape by? Surely the pair had been lucky themselves. However, that luck probably wouldn't last much longer but one could hope.
They weren't quite out of the woods just yet, though. The guards were persistent in stopping them, and their shouts only grew louder along with the bullets ricocheting off the metal of the train. "Stop them! Kill them!" The men kept shouting but their words proved to be pointless as the train kept advancing forward, unhindering to the numerous bullets.
Yermak stood in the front of the train car, controlling the metal machine as it began picking up pace. "Come here, quickly!" The older man said, waving a hand to call the two over. "You guys should put on your mask, the sealing might be damaged."
Artyom and Anna didn't waste time and equipped their gas masks just in case. Taking risks wasn't advised, especially in a world where everything was dead and irradiated. Donning a gas mask was literally a part of life to them by now, and even a habit to always have one on you. It was also excruciatingly important to carry extra filters too.
With the the train speeding up, the enemies voices were fading quickly until they could be heard no more. Assuming they were successful in their plan of stealing the train, Artyom and his wife celebrated with a high five.
"We did it!"
"Seems like we're in the clear," Artyom replied back, hopeful that he was right.
"Yeah!" The sniper answered back in excitement.
There was a sudden crack followed by breakage of glass. Windows burst open, shattering shards of glass as it rained down on them from above. A few popping noises, and then a flash of bright light illuminated the train car, temporarily blinding them. Everything happened in the blink of an eye, and it was difficult to even tell what had just gone down.
Artyom was sure that he'd seen a flash bang of sorts fall, then roll along the ground for a few moments beforehand, but before he could look away or shut his eyes, it had already blinded him.
His first thought was 'had the enemies somehow caught up with them? Or perhaps they climbed aboard when they weren't paying attention?' The ringing in his ears grew louder and someone's elbow met his face while still being temporarily blinded by the flash bang. Artyom fell to the ground on his stomach, his vision slowly but surely creeping back in as Anna came into his view.
A gun pointing towards him from above made it's presence known, as the man brought it close to his back. Artyom's bluish-green eyes began scanning the faces of the enemies, but his vision was still a bit off that it made it difficult to distinguish their features. But he couldn't help but think that they had very recognizable voices, ones he'd heard many times before.
"Shoot these two, as for the engineer…" One of the men commanded, but the other butt in.
"What do you mean 'shoot these two?'" One of the other men questioned nearby. "Is this the Reich or something?"
The other man must have not liked what he'd replied with because he stepped towards him, scolding him. "Don't you dare give me lip, soldier!"
"Don't you dare. The Colonel will give you a piece of his mind now," another commented boldly. "Colonel, Sir! We have a bit of a situation here."
Artyom could see someone else walk into his view, and immediately recognized who it was when he called out his daughter's name.
"Anna..?!" His voice was gruff and usually stern, one could easily tell he was surprised to see his daughter in a place like this.
In all honesty, it was more surprising seeing him here from Artyom's perspective. What in the hell was going on here? So many questions building up one after another, but he wasn't about to go ham and list off all the questions he had for him and the other members of The Order. Besides, Anna usually was the one to interrogate them when it came to things like this anyways.
The Colonel always had things kept some things a secret from them, twisting things up and lying in order to prevent Anna and Artyom from knowing.
But perhaps they had a good explanation for all of this, but it sure as hell didn't look promising from the looks of it. Just what kind of dilemma had they gotten themselves into this time?
Artyom had a foreboding feeling in which he'll never hear the end of it.
END.
Author's Note:
Here's the first chapter. I know it's a bit short but bear with me, I'm planning to make future chapters much longer than this. This was just a short one to start out, and see if people will be interested if I write more. I just finished playing the game twice, and I can't help but feel empty after playing it so I wanted to try and write a story about Artyom and his adventures with the others on the Aurora.
I had the idea to write about his journey throughout Metro Exodus, whether it be doing missions and retrieving stuff, spending time and bonding with other members on the Aurora and just little things in between. I feel like there's quite a few things I could write about and include. Also, I don't know if I'll be following the exact story line, but I'm going to try and be as close to the original but I'm going to include stuff that hasn't happened in the game for the sake of making the story longer.
Anyways, please let me know what you think. There may be spelling errors and such but I'll be sure to revise sometime soon and maybe even add in more words or something. But if you'd like, please feel free to give suggestions on what you'd like to see in the future.. I'm also open to criticism and all that stuff too. I'm not that great at writing and don't do it very often, so it'll help me with getting better and improving. That's all for now, I'll try and write about the next chapter sometime soon! Reviews would be nice if you decided to read, please tell me what you think and if I got something wrong, I'm sorry-
