The Matching of Fiver and Silverweed

Fiver was lying on his front on the field far from Watership Down. He was feeling terribly worthless. Brainless Hawkbit had – yet again – insulted him with his visions, this time, saying that no one can trust him in a game of Bob Stones or Tail Tag. Fiver just got lucky at winning those games.

He heard padding feet and Silverweed emerged, following a butterfly that landed on his nose making him sneeze.

Silverweed was a rabbit that once lived in Clowslip's Warren. He looked far too creepy and ill in the head to anyone who saw him, but ever since he was rescued from General Woundwort after Cowslip sold him to him, he promptly proved to be a very kind, sweet rabbit. He would always be too glad to make anyone happy if they were upset like Fiver.

Fiver kept silent however. He didn't want to make an attention-seeker of himself.

"Fiver," said Silverweed in his raspy but gentle voice. Is something bothering you, dear friend?"

"The usual," said Fiver. "Silverweed, am I odd?"

Silverweed laughed. "If you were odd, I would've looked into your mind right now which I am not doing."

"I'm always reading visions and I think it's odd. These games I join in, well Hawkbit thinks I use them for cheating. He once called me a threat. I hid shamefully under a rock for whole day risking my life to the weasel."

"People let things slip," said Silverweed sitting to Fiver smiling in a very comforting way. "I can do something nobody can, you can do something nobody can. We match."

"I don't to want match," said Fiver. "I want to be normal."

"But if you didn't sense any danger from where you used to live, you would all be dead, and Primrose would still be suffering in Efrafa."

"Hmmm," said Fiver glumly. "You're right."

"So you see? You basically saved your family and friends. You should be proud of yourself."

Fiver considered. He was absolutely right.

"I'm sorry I said I don't want to match," said Fiver. "The first I said when you arrived here for the first time was it was like having another brother who can read minds, knowing what I know."

"It's alright, Fiver," said Silverweed nuzzling Fiver's face. "I know you didn't mean it. I feel we are already brothers."

They got up smiling at each other for some time. Then, Fiver rushed around Silverweed.

"Tail Tag!"

They rushed through the woods and chased each other without stopping for air. They ran through the cool shallow river and they tackled and rolled over each other. They chased each other back to Watership Down where they saw Hawkbit being chased by Bigwig because he accidently ate his fla-rah without realizing it himself.

Fiver and Silverweed laughed at the site. They lied down the slope of the hill watching the sunset.

"You know, Silverweed," said Fiver. "With you around, I don't think I'm going to feel like a black sheep for a long time."

"See?" said Silverweed smiling at probably his now best friend. "We do match."

They both smiled at each and looked at the sun falling down behind the trees.

Please review this. I want to know if there's anything I could do better on. Thanks. xxx.
