This is Why I Never Married. This and Another Reason
I don't own How to Train Your Dragon or any of the characters. They belong to Cressida Cowell and Dreamworks.
Gobber was in the forge, fixing up a Deadly Nadder's teeth. He gently patting the Deadly Nadder's head and the dragon walked away from the forge. The older viking was picking up before he closed up the forge, and headed out with his dragon, Grump. Gobber was walking up to the statue of Stoick. He sat down near the statue's feet and leaning against Grump. He looked at Stoick. "I miss you, Stoick." said Gobber softly. He closed his eyes as he sat there on the ground.
The older viking cared for his friend so much and loved him more than a friend. He sighed softly. "Gobber?" asked a familliar voice. Gobber opened his eys and saw Hiccup and Toothless standing there. "We were coming out of the Meade Hall and saw you. You okay?" asked Hiccup as he walked over and sat down next to him. Toothless nudged Gobber's hand gently. Gobber gently pets Toothless' snout.
"Yes, lad. I'm fine." said Gobber looking at Hiccup. "Just thinking about your father." Hiccup smiled at him gently. "I miss dad too, Gobber." said Hiccup. Gobber looked at him and nodded. Hiccup looked at him gently. "Gobber, talk to me. I know something is wrong." said Hiccup looking at the older viking. Gobber chuckled soflty. "You're so much like your father and mother worring about everyone." said Gobber. "Because I care about you, Gobber." said the young chief. "You're like my second dad to me." Gobber smiled and patted Hiccup's cheek gently.
"Now talk to me, Gobber." said Hiccup. Gobber looked at Hiccup and nodded. He took a deep breathe. "You know I like men." said Gobber. Hiccup nodded at the older viking. "And um... I cared and loved you father very much. More than a friend." said Gobber. He looked down at his lap. Hiccup grabbed Gobber's good hand and squeezed his hand gently. Gobber looked at him.
"Did dad know that you loved him?" asked Hiccup. "I think he knew that I did, but didn't say anything to me." said Gobber looking up at the statue of Stoick. Hiccup looked at Gobber and hugged him. The older viking wrapped his arm around Hiccup. "I couldn't tell your father that I loved him. I could see that he loved you mother with all his heart and your mother loved you father with all her heart." said Gobber. "I couldn't do it. So I kept that to myself all these years." Hiccup looked at Gobber. "My dad loves you no matter what." said Hiccup. "And is watching over you." Gobber smiled at him gently. "And I lnew you're going to find your better half." Gobber chuckled softly. "Thank you lad." said Gobber. "You're an amazing young man." Hiccup smiled at his father's friend and mentor.
"I'm gonna go and check the island." said Hiccup. "But come over later Gobber. I'm making dinner for Astrid and mom. It would be amazing if you come over for dinner." Gobber smiled at Hiccup and nodded at him. "I'd like that a lot, Hiccup." said Gobber. Hiccup smiled and got up. He got onto Toothless' back. "Alright, I'll see you then, Gobber." said Hiccup. Gobber nodded at the young chief. He watched Hiccup fly away on Toothless. Gobber looked up at the statue of Stoick. "You have a great son, my friend." said Gobber. He closed his eyes and relaxed before going to the Haddock's house for dinner.
