Shivering, the Madrigal clutched her knees, tightly to her chest. Her breaths were sharp and short. She was back in the cave. The cave where she had been betrayed. Where she feel for his foolish tricks. She hadn't wanted to come back, yet something made her.
Now, as she sat in the dark shadows, she listened for his voice. She could sense his presence, yet he wouldn't speak. He never did unless it benefited him. This, she was sure, wouldn't.
We're twenty. She thought. Just speak.
Still no sound came from his direction. The only sound heard within the cave was the girls sharp breaths.
"I know you're here." His thick accent broke the silence. "Come out."
"Never," the girl trembled. "You can't make me."
"Then I'll leave you like I did six years ago."
"We're twenty. Can't you grow up!" The girl began crying. Her sobs echoed throughout the cave.
"Am I the one crying like a two year old?"
"No, but you are the one acting like a jerky seventeen year old!"
"You do realize your comebacks are very lame. I don't understand you Americans."
"Ian, leave me here and you'll regret it. Bring me with you or I'll never forgive myself for my mistakes." The girl breathed in heavily. In the dark, she noticed Ian shift his position.
"I can't take you with me. But I can't leave you here." Ian sighed.
"Why can't you take? You're not making any sense."
"Amy, I have a girlfriend." Ian told her.
"So, why would it matter?" Amy trembled.
"She doesn't like my connection with you. She's told me not to even talk to other girls. It's bad enough I'm here with you."
"Why? Who is she?"
"Cara Pierce."
"Her! That snake! Her dad tried to kill us! How can we trust her? How can you date her?"
"Amy, Jonah came with me. Stay with him, he'll call his jet."
"I rather stay here." Amy said, defiantly.
"Suit yourself. I'm leaving."
"Ian, don't go. Please. I need you here."
"Amy, Cara will get worried."
"So, she's not good for you. No one is. You're too perfect."
"Amy, please don't make me do this."
"I'm not making you do anything!"
"Then let me go. I don't need you."
"Yes, you do."
"How? I have Cara."
"She won't do you any good."
"Then what should I do?"
"Stay here. With me."
"What would Cara think?
"Ian, let her worry. She'll decide she doesn't like you. Please stay."
"Alright, but Jonah."
"Send him home. Have him leave his jet here, but send him home."
"Alright, I'll come back."
"You better."
Amy sat back in the silence, waiting. As she waited, the shadows seemed to close around her. They looked like monsters, ready to get her. She screamed.
Ian came running back.
"Amy, what's wrong?"
"The walls, they were closing in on me! I felt scared." Amy shivered in the cold.
"It's alright. The walls aren't going to collapse. Here take my coat."
"Ian, I couldn't. You need it as well. I'm the one who came out here by myself. You came to rescue me. Please keep the coat." Amy pleaded.
"Amy, you're freezing! You've been out here for a couple days before we realized you came here. I only showed up a few hours ago. Take the coat." Ian demanded.
"I can't. Please don't make me."
"Fine, but you'll freeze." Ian warned her.
"I won't. I'm fine." Amy rocked back and forth on her heels. "Ian, promise me you won't leave me again."
"I promise."
"Thank you." Amy replied, managing a forced smile.
