The cold. That's all I can remember. The chill that runs through your body. The haunting howl that molests our being. I like that...
The heat is unbearable. No matter what you do, you will succumb to the sweltering wave. The cold? The cold is wonderful. It forces you to appreciate the warmth. Teaches us to not take the suffering heat for granted. The cold reminds us that alone, the world is cruel. Alone in the wilderness, you will freeze to death. But with someone by your side, to keep you shivering from the unforgiving winds. To keep you company in their warmth. That is what the cold does. It makes us remember to love the warmth of those around us.
I will never forget the cold. It was the only time of the year that made me appreciate what I have.
What I had...
That's in the past. All I can feel now is the warmth. The sweaty, uncomfortable, panting warmth. The warmth of a growing flame. Fire. Fire is never one sided. Fire takes, but can also give. It is cruel, but also kind. Too cruel to be kind, however. In the end, once the flames die, all that is left is the silence.
I want that. I want the calm of the breeze to blow through my hair like when I was a boy. I want the world to remember to never take anything for granted. I want to see this heat wave pass by. I want this world to feel the burn that mankind has caused. I want to watch this world burn faster. I want this overbearing warmth to end. I want the cold to return. The silence. The appreciation of company and the people around us.
I remember a time when the world would huddle together against the cold. Now... it's just getting too hot.
I miss the cold. They would have loved it...
That was all he could think about. The aging man tapped his glass of red wine as he stared into the fireplace, his eyes seemed almost empty and soulless. The fireplace was the only thing that lit the dark room. The fire kept on going for some time now. He stood up and approached the pit. He swirled the glass and took a sip before making his way to to his red leather seat, only to turn around and threw the glass of wine into the flames, igniting the fireplace into a blaze before the flames died off, only leaving the man in darkness again.
A oneshot teaser for my RWBY OC story. Hope you enjoyed it.
