Crimson Snow

White powder falls from the sky. Slowly drifting, finally coming to a rest.
This is also life.
The sun starts to rise, creating a pink mist in the sky.
How long have I been laying here?
Your beautiful face is before me.
Tears fall freely from your auburn eyes.

Why are you crying?

My body is upon the snow-covered ground.
The cold is unbearable, yet I cannot move. Frustration overwhelms me. I explain this to you and you smile knowingly.
Your hand caresses my cheek.

Why are you crying?

No feeling comes from me. My whole body has gone numb.
My mind races in confusion.
What's wrong with me?
I'm certain of only one thing.
My love for you.

Why are you crying?

You massage my limbs, trying to restore them. With this, I feel a sudden pain.
Heat quickly escapes my body, somehow eager to get out.
The snow continues to blanket the world.
I observe the beauty of the world around me, taking in every last detail.

I now see why you are crying.

You take my hand in yours and press it against you.
I close my eyes and enjoy the feel of your skin against mine.
The pain pounds in my chest.
I draw you into an embrace, one last embrace.
I take a breath, knowing that this also will be my last.
My eyes begin to glaze.
I now know why you are crying.
For I have seen the crimson snow.
