It was easy to become lost and forgotten when you had lots of siblings. It was easy to exist, yet at the same time be invisible.
So, if you wanted to be noticed, you had to find a way to stand out.
It didn't help that Percy Weasley had it a little harder than some of his other siblings. He was not the oldest or the youngest child, and he wasn't exactly in the middle either. He also didn't have the unique status of being the only girl. Percy, therefore, knew that he would have to put in an extra effort to be recognized as an individual. He would have to put in an extra effort to stand out in the crowd that was his family.
Not that Percy was jealous of any of his siblings, because he really wasn't. He loved them, but he had always considered himself different from them.
Percy admired both Charlie and Bill for their brains and high grades, but Percy often found himself questioning their sanity.
When it came to Charlie, well, he had to be crazy to want to work with dragons for the rest of his life.
Not that Percy ever said this to Charlie's face, of course, because Percy did respect how devoted Charlie was to his dragons. And Percy also did respect how Charlie had always strove to be the best in his field of study both at and after Hogwarts.
As for Bill, Percy really did admire him a lot. There weren't many wizards and witches that had the brains and the talent to be a Curse Breaker. And even though Percy wished that Bill was not always involved in the types of dangerous situations that often came with that profession, Percy did respect his older brother's abilities.
It was no mystery at all to Percy that Charlie and Bill were so close to each other. They both thrived on danger.
Percy, however, had no intention of being the same way. The Weasley family already had two daredevils in Charlie and Bill, and it was clear that Fred and George had the same reckless nature as the two oldest Weasley children.
No, the Weasley family didn't need another reckless Weasley. Percy, therefore, was going to have to be the one sensible Weasley.
Percy was determined to find a way to stand out. He didn't want to be lost and forgotten amongst his other siblings. He didn't want to be invisible. He didn't want to be just another Weasley.
He wanted to be Percy, a wizard of worth and importance. He wanted to make a huge contribution to the Wizarding World.
And as much as Percy did respect Charlie and Bill, he knew they weren't exactly big names in the Wizarding World. But then again, they had never sought fame and recognition.
Percy, however, was going to be different. He was going to be the one Weasley that truly stood out. He was going to be the Weasley that was not going to be known for just his last name. He loved his family, but he didn't want to be defined by them alone.
No matter what, Percy was not going to be just another Weasley.
