Author Notes: Thank you to Arem for beta reading this story. This is just a little piecies that I think should have been in the NJOR series. Well I hope you enjoy! Twister of the Mind.
An Unexpected Visitor
Curled in the fetal position, on her bed, wails of loses and of things never to be, escape the woman between inconsolable sobs. Her eyes are red from hours of crying, yet still the tears come. It seems the pain will never lessen.
No longer does she call out for Anakin in the darkness as if her words alone might return him from the dead. Anakin is gone and with him all her hopes and dreams. No longer is the war, or even life, important. They all pale in comparison to losing him. There had to have been another road. One where she could have saved him, so they could be together.
"Tahiri"
"Go away. Leave me alone!"
"Tahiri." This time the voice registers; it is Anakin's voices she hears. Impossible. She wonders if she has gone mad. "My love." It comes again and she rises in search of its owner.
Her heart stops, as her eyes come to rest, on the glowing blue figure standing at the far side of room. Paralyzed with confusion all she can do is stare. The figures slowly moves closer, like no holograham could. The words finally slip from her lips. "Anakin?"
His smile lifts her heart as he says "Please, don't cry."
"You're dead." These words freeze her heart. Her mind knows what her head doesn't want to admitted, he is a force ghost.
"I'm so sorry; I wish this could have turned out differently"
"Why have you come here?"
"To say goodbye and help you find closure."
"Anakin, I don't want you to say goodbye. Don't go." Closure, Tarahi didn't want closure. She didn't want to say goodbye. She wanted to save him, to change what she couldn't.
"You know I can't stay."
"I don't want you to go, I don't want to be alone."
"You're not alone. You've got Jaina, Jacen, Mom, Dad, Uncle Luke, and-"
"But not you." She whisper's and in the dark regions of her heart she know she wish in some way that it had been one of the twins or their friends who die. No matter how selfish or wrong it was.
"Not in the flesh, but I will always be with you."
"It's not the same." Tarahi eye's meet his own ghostly pair and a new wave of pain rose in her as she knew she'll never see him again.
"I know you're hurt, but you must move on."
"I don't think I can." She hangs her head low as the ghost moves to her.
"You can, you just don't want to." She glares up at the ghost, surprised by the rush of anger that fills her.
"You make it sound so simple. Just go on."
"Nothing is simple and I am sorry I have failed you."
"What? Not you—" He holds his hand up in a gentle gesture to stop her.
"I promise to be there for you and I have broken that promise. I wish I could help you through the darkness and be there when you fall, but I can't. So you must be strong and you must go on. I will never be at peace knowing you can't find peace."
"Why did you have to go and get yourself killed?" She tries to force a smile on her lips. "Always the hero." She mutters as Anakin leans down and kisses the side of her check but she only feels a tingle. Instead of the warmth that should have been there.
"The hardest part of love is letting go. Don't let your brightness fade away my love."
"Be in peace my love." She whispers as he is beginning to fade.
"That pain will pass. I promise and you will find joy once again." The ghost fades away. She returns to the bed, sitting down. She will live for him but it will be a long time before she can ever love again.
