Over four decades of war ravaged the Union territories. In the "Golden Age" of human exploration, the Confederacy of the Free Frontier seceded from the United Republic of Terra. Through charismatic leaders and propaganda, the Confederacy convinced its people and other colonies that the Union was tyrannical in its ways and gathered an army large enough to rival the Union's, and while they did not have the equipment or training the Union soldiers had, they had tenacity and numbers to make up for it. After fourty-eight years of constant warfare, the Union slowly but surely started to win. In the waning months of the war, the Union sent a small, elite squad to capture an important leader of the Confederacy named Saul Morris.

Somewhere at the edge of the Andromeda galaxy...

Lieutenant Ajax Laskaris paced his room. Looking down, he remembered the burn on his arm from the explosion, a reminder of his failure. It had been three days since it had been injured, and it was almost entirely healed. Fortunately for him, the medical expert assigned to them was great at her job.

They had almost captured Saul on an ice planet that had no name, until they realized they had walked into a trap. The whole place had been rigged to blow. With the distraction, the bastard escaped with the help of the only other Confederate left alive.

Ajax look back up and toward the mirror next to him. He was average height for his generation, standing at about six-foot six. Ajax was what someone would call a handsome man, having a strong jawline, golden blonde hair and chocolate-brown eyes, all accompanied by a Texan accent and deep voice. Even his scars helped his looks. At least that's what he told himself.

Turning away from the mirror, he headed down to the jail on the ship they resided in for the last eight years, grabbing a tray of food instantly prepared by a machine in their faux kitchen. Continuing on his way, he stopped at the sound of shouts of anger.

"GOD DAMMIT! MOTHER FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!"

These vulgar spewings came from the heavy weapons expert of the squad Captain Krieg Keaton. The Captain was a veteran of the war long before Ajax joined up, and was almost seven years older at thirty-four years old. Krieg was a very large man, standing at exactly seven-foot four and was extremely muscular, being almost four hundered pounds of pure muscle. Unfortunately, this was paired with the tendencies of a silverback gorilla.

At the moment, it seemed he working on his laser cannon. Well, he was trying to at least.

Sitting directly across from him and calibrating his scope was the newest member of the squad. Acting as the squad sniper was Ivan Ulvarrson. Nobody knew much about Ivan, and he hardly talked, if at all.

"Why do these have to be so complicated? I wish we still used kinetic weapons." Krieg grunted in frustration.

"They're complicated because they're the best weapons you can find. Anyway, I'm heading down to keep our Confederate buddy fed and at least somewhat alive." Ajax said before continuing on his way, leaving Krieg chuckling and Ivan... to do Ivan stuff.

Not long after, Ajax arrived at the cell with their prisoner.

"Hey, get up. Since it's a war crime to starve ya, I brought ya some food." Ajax explained while sliding the tray of food into the slot.

"Fuck off, you Unionist bastard."

The Confederate soldier in the cell was probably no older than nineteen, and was the only surving Confederate in the destroyed facility.

"Whatever. Just eat the 'tyrannical slop' or whatever stupid shit ya called it last time."

Before the prisoner could reply, Ajax's radio buzzed to life.

"Laskaris, get up here fast! You need to see this!" the ship's pilot, Julian Scott, exclaimed. Considering the man's usual laid back nature, the Lieutenant knew it was urgent.

Rushing up to the ship's bridge, Ajax waited for the door to slide open before stepping inside, only to have his heart nearly stop. Directly in front of the ship, he saw a violently pulsating vortex, not unlike the kind the Union used to warp with.

"I've tried getting out of its pull, but its too strong! It just came out of nowhere!" Julian said in a panic.

"Start up the alarm and tell everyone to prepare for warp." Ajax said with false confidence. On the inside, he was screaming in terror. But he couldn't let that show. Not now.

"Alright then, Lieutenant. And see you on the other side I suppose." the pilot said before doing as he was told.

Ajax rushed down to get everything prepared for warp, along with everyone else. His heart was racing. Warp gates shouldn't appear out of nowhere. Since he wasn't sure if the gate would tear open the ship or not, he got everyone to get into either their armor or space suit. 'You could never be too careful' he thought as he put on his chest piece, the rest of the armor materializing around him. Once everything was where it was supposed to be, the few people on the ship strapped in, not truly ready for what would come next.

5... 4... 3... 2...

They felt a harsh tugging as the lights of the ship died out

And everything went white.

It was a peaceful day in the Lylat system. Quiet, just how Fox Mccloud liked it. Looking up from the picture of his girlfriend and childhood friend, Fara Phoenix, he observed his team. With the war with Venom coming to an end, the Star Fox team had quite the morale boost. Ever since Andross was defeated, Venomian forces had almost entirely given up the will to fight. Of course, there were a few particularly stubborn Venomians that kept the Star Fox team on a payroll.

Sitting on the other side of the room were the three females on the team. Krystal, his second in command, and the two new additions to the team Miyu Lynx and Fay Spaniel. With the two new members, it seemed Krystal had some friends to relate with better on a ship than the mostly male team. Krystal was always a fairly gentle woman, and came from a planet that was destroyed entirely. Fox felt sorry for her for losing her family, knowing what it was like.

Miyu on the other hand was a very outgoing woman, and was quite the flirt. Her tomboyish attitude made her a handful to deal with, but she was one of the most capable fighters Fox had ever seen, and was an excellent pilot.

Fay was less outgoing than Miyu, but was not one to object to being social. To Fox, she was the most optimistic person he knew of.

Looking away from the group of ladies talking about who knows what, he spotted Falco, the most stubborn bird in the universe. At the moment, Falco was polishing one of the blasters he loved so much, talking with Slippy Toad, the team's anxious mechanic, about potential weapon upgrades.

Smiling to himself, Fox got up from his seat to head to the bridge of the ship to see how Peppy Hare was doing. He wanted to see if there were any potential jobs from General Pepper they could take for some extra spending money.

Entering the bridge, Fox saw a projection of the General himself.

"Ah, Fox. Just in time. I have another mission for you."

Fox was surprised, considering he had just been thinking about such a thing.

"Lay it on me, General. What"s the situation?"

"Near Corneria, an unidentified ship appeared out of nowhere. It doesn't seem to have Venomian origins, but our troops are occupied and you're the best option we have. I have sent the approximate coordinates of the ship. Peppy can fill you in on the details. Good luck, Mccloud." General Pepper explained before signing off.

"Alright then. R.O.B., set a course for that ship. I'll let the team know where we're headed. We have a job to do." Fox said with a smile. This might prove to be interesting.

Fox could see the ship floating aimlessly. It was about the size of the Great Fox, and was matte black, a black so dark that is seemed to absorb the light around it. It was long and rounded, ending in sharp points in the back, with two points in the front, one above the other. Between the points, Fox saw what looked like two very large cannons. They made Fox quite nervous.

However, something seemed wrong. The ship did not have its engines on, and he could see no activity whatsoever. It was like it was dead.

"I'll try to summon them." Fox said. Maybe they could find out who they were.

"This is the Fox Mccloud of Star Fox. To whom am I speaking to?" Fox asked.

No answer.

Fox repeated a few more times, never getting a response. He went to get the team ready. They were going to board the ship.

Ajax awoke with a start. He didn't remember passing out. Looking around, he realized that the power was off. It was as if they were hit with an EMP. Getting out of the seat he was strapped into he went to wake the others when he heard a loid bang. He knew that sound, having heard it many times throughout his grizzly career. They were being boarded.

There were intruders on the ship. Ajax rushed to wake up his squad. They would need to be prepared if it was an enemy rather than a rescue team.

"What's going on, Lieutenant?" Krieg asked, confused.

"We're being boarded, y'all, and I ain't sure if they're friendly." Ajax replied in a hushed tone.

"Well that's just fan-fucking-tastic isn't it? Guess if they're those Confederate bastards we'll just have to blow 'em back out!" the Captain said, materializing his heavy blaster into his hands. Next to him, Ivan had already pulled out his automatic energy pistol and had it trained on the door without a single word.

Opening the doors to the room, they quickly moves out into the pitch black halls, ready to deal with the potential threat.

The Star Fox team crept through the strange ships hangar with their night vision visors. Fox could see four fighters in the hangar, each a black, narrow fighter, resembling black winged darts with cockpits near the rear of the fighters.

Exiting the hangar, they searched through the halls until they reached what seemed like a jail, but all of the doors and windows were shut down, being entirely covered by walls of metal.

"This place gives me the creeps." Falco whispered, surpressing a shiver.

"You give me the creeps, Falco." Miyu whispered back with a quiet giggle.

Falco opened his mouth to tell her off, but was silenced by a loud bang on the cell door behind him. They stepped back from it, unsure of what was inside. Multiple other bangs followed with muffled, unintelligible shouts filled their ears. They all instinctively gripped their blasters tighter.

Suddenly, a deep, electronic voice sounded out from behind them.

"Drop your weapons and reach for the sky."

They did as they were told when they felt cold blaster barrels against the backs of their heads.

"Identify yourselves." the voice demanded.

"I-I'm Fox Mccloud, and this is the Star Fox team. Who... who are you?" Fox replied, panic setting in. He didn't even notice them approach his team.

"I am an elite soldier of the Union, and these blasters against your skulls belong to Reaper Squad."

AN: Howdy everybody! I hope you enjoyed this first chapter, what little there was in it. I know you all probably wanted a "show, not tell" for the attempted capture of Saul, but I wanted you to experience the skill of our human soldiers for the first time along with the Star Fox crew. The pacing also seems a bit off to me, so I'll be working on that. In the meantime, let me know what you think. Thank you for reading!
