Light of Darkness

This is in Ryou's POV, by the way.
Mesmerized, I watch the sole flickering light. A candle. Light in darkness.
I suppose I should relate.
But all of his 'hikari' and 'yami' stuff… it's just so stupid.
Dark, elongated, twisted. Abnormal faces to the mundane clutter of my kitchen.
The candlelight casts shadows around the room. Or maybe they're always there.
The light makes the shadows grow darker by comparison. It reveals them.
Light's supposed to be pure, true, and innocent, but it knows where the darkness lies.
Light's not completely naïve.
"It's the difference between day and night".
Yet isn't it the light that makes the arrival of darkness so profound?
And isn't it the darkness that makes light stand out as light?
The two opposites, points at either end of the spectrum. Supposedly.
But there is no concept of one without the other.
Light made darkness and darkness made light.
They make each other appear to exist.
See? It's stupid.
Innocent little Yugi whispers in homeroom about certain videos.
And Kaiba isn't completely cold. He cares about his little brother.
I watch the candle shrinking.
Fire is light, too, isn't it? But it ignites lives; it's heard the screaming…
Tears of wax drip down the candle as the wick slowly burns.
Shadows, shadows- every item lays claim to one of them. Not separate entities, not individuals, but a single unit.
Mou hitori no boku and I are separate entities. We're bound by the Ring, a body; heck, maybe even a destiny. But we're not one and the same.
Light of darkness, darkness of light.
And I'm neither.
Wow, this is kind of creepy. Please review!
