Queen's Heart and King's Tears
Keigo Atobe tried to hold back his sadness.
No way he was going to cry. Not the great ore-sama. Although with the recent events that had happened, he felt like he wanted to.
To be exact, it all started one day, while he was taking a walk. He was busy walking on the streets when he noticed Kunimitsu Tezuka, one of his greatest rivals, with his beautiful step-sister and team manger for Seigaku, Rina Enzero.
It was love at first sight for him. But he knew it was going to be tough to win her over. Atobe could make any girl do his biding, but probably not when it comes the relative of a rival.
Then, during the Kanto Tournament, he probably done what he thinks the most stupid and careless mistake of his life.
He let his tennis instincts took over him and won against Tezuka, while destroying his arm in the progress.
How could he do such a thing? Rina would be heartbroken and angry at him. His life was over.
After that match, Atobe tried to mask his broken heart and sadness for the rest of the day. He said to his teammates he was fine and going to be okay, but that night, he fell to sleep in bed with tears streaming from his face.
He lost. Rina's heart. The battle. The championship. Everything.
At the next match for Seigaku, Atobe still tried to hide his sadness. But a wound was forming. He heard Tezuka had to go for rehabilitation and that Rikkai's captain, Seiichi Yukimura, who was in surgery, was in fact a childhood friend of Rina.
He made her sadness grew bigger. Just great. But then he saw, with his own eyes, bring the team to the semifinals and the right to enter the nationals. And she never did frown. In fact, she kept smiling the whole time. She must be very good at hiding he sadness.
Atobe watched as Seigaku beat Rokkaku and mowed onto the finals to fight the champions Rikkai Academy, where their law is losing in not allowed. Then he heard that the final match took place on the same day as Yukimura was to receive an operation.
Atobe knew that Rikkai would want to finish the match quickly to make it in time for Yukimura's surgery while Rina would just head over to watch, so he viewed the match.
That's when he saw the most shocking thing before his eyes. He saw Ryoma beat "Emperor" Sanada and defeating the champions to win the Kanto Tournament.
A sudden flame lit up in Atobe's heart. This was not over. He will keep improving and someday he will become number one. And to start, he could beat that little brat they call Ryoma.
When Atobe was about to leave, he bumped into Rina. He tried not to talk to her, but seeing the tears in her eyes, he knew he have to.
"Rina, why are you crying?"
"This has been the best day of my life. Yukimura survived the operation and is in rehabilitation. What's more, I just got a phone call from Tezuka and he said he can make it in time for the Nationals. These are tears of joy. This day can't get any better."
Atobe left a blank stare at her. Rina's life was starting to get better for once.
"Actually, it can. I saw the finals. Seigaku won the tournament. They beat Rikkai."
Rina smiled.
"Oh, god! I can't believe this! We won! This is amazing!"
Atobe watched her tears melt away and she started to jump around in a cheery mood.
"And Atobe, I need to tell you something."
Atobe blinked at her.
"What?"
"Even though you broke my brother's arm… I love you."
Now Atobe felt like crying. This was amazing. The girl he thought he lost, loved him.
A smile formed on his face while a small tear went from his eye.
"…Atobe?"
"I love you too."
The next thing that happened was that Atobe pulled Rina into a passionate kiss.
