He just had to do it again, didn't he?
They burst through the 'gate screaming for a medical team. Ronon carrying Colonel Sheppard in his arms, both men covered in crimson blood.
"We need Carson Now! Sheppard's been stabbed in the neck. Oh god he's stopped breathing!"
Rodney stood aside as Beckett and his medical team arrived in the 'gate room. He was gasping for breath and praying for John to be alright. Ronon gently placed Sheppard on the gurney as Beckett set to work. Monitors were quickly and efficiently hooked to John's body, whilst Beckett tried desperately to stem the bleeding and get Sheppard breathing again. A nurse was sticking an IV in the Colonel's arm while the rest of the medical team shouted out facts and figures Rodney only barely understood, as they ran with the gurney to the infirmary.
"Pulse is 150 and thready"
"BP 50 palp"
"Damn it! I can't intubate him; there's too much blood, he's going to code if were not quick!" Beckett exclaimed as they reached the door of the infirmary.
They quickly moved Sheppard's gurney to the back of the infirmary where there was more medical equipment and monitors to attach to Sheppard's still and lifeless body.
"Pulsox 70 and cyanotic" said one of Rodney favourite nurses Sarah, as she attached a monitor to the Colonel's finger. Beckett pulled his stethoscope off from around his neck and checked John's breath sounds.
"No air-way, we need to tube him now!"
"Seven and a half?"
"Yes lass"
"I need some suction"
Rodney watched with morbid fascination as a nurse handed Carson the correct sized tubing so that he could try and intubate Sheppard again. Carson seamed to be struggling and swore several times under his breath.
"Bloody heck, there's just too much blood, I canna see a thing! One more minute and he's going to have brain damage! Let's do a trac."
"Are you sure Dr?"
"If we don't there won't be a John Sheppard to save! Let's move now, and do a surgical air-way"
"Yes Dr" the nurse then handed Carson a scalpel as he moved around to John right side to begin cutting him a new air-way in his throat.
"Call it out please Sarah, nice and loud" he asked as he began slicing into John's already mangled neck.
"BP still 60 over 40, pulse 160"
"Alright lass, trach tube" he ordered and was promptly handed a tube to insert into Sheppard's neck. Carson deftly inserted the tube into John's lungs through his throat and asked for a suction to drain away the excess blood still pouring out of the Colonel's body.
Carson then checked Sheppard's breathing sounds again with his stethoscope.
"I like the way that sounds. Alright he's breathing, welcome back John" he lightly patted Sheppard's shoulder as a nurse attached a ventilator to the tube protruding from the new hole in Sheppard's throat. Another nurse was now attaching another IV into John's arm to match the one already pumping him with much needed O-Neg.
"Alright ladies and Gentlemen, let's get him to surgery. Well done everyone"
As they wheeled Sheppard into the OR Carson hung back for a moment to reassure Rodney and the rest of the team who were standing in the middle of the infirmary looking decidedly shocked.
"Now don't you go frettin' he's in good hands. He's Stable now so were just going to stitch up that nasty gash in his neck and he should be right as rain in no time- you'll see." The team visibly relaxed somewhat, with Rodney almost swaying with relief.
"Now, why don't you all let my staff check you over, get yourselves something to eat and then you can come back and check on the Colonel yourselves?"
There were some weak head-nodding as the team made their way over to the examination area; Rodney of course was the first to speak.
"I just can not believe that man! He just had to flirt with the damn priestess didn't he?"
