After All These Years
Heero rolled on the bed, hand reaching out. He bolted up in the bed when he couldn't find the other person he knew should have been there. "Duo?"
Silence met his ears. For a panicked second he thought the worst as he heard the soft 'ping, ping, ping' of rain hitting the roof. Looking out the window, he glared at the liquid as it fell from the sky.
With a sigh he threw the covers back and got out of bed. A shiver ran down his spine when his feet touched the freezing floor. Silently he padded down the hall and down the stairs. Walking into the living room he sighed again. The back patio door was left open, meaning Duo was outside on the porch. He silently thanked Quatre for telling him to make it an in-closed porch.
In the kitchen he made a quick cup of hot chocolate, knowing Duo was lost in his own little world right now. Walking back through the living room he grabbed a blanket and slipped through the door. He found Duo curled up in one of the chairs, chestnut hair cascading over the side and hiding his face form view. Shaking his head he set the cup on the table, startling Duo.
"Gomen." Heero whispered as he dropped the blanket over his lover. "How long have you been out here?"
Duo blinked up at him before looking back out at the rain. "An hour or two."
Heero's eye twitched. "Duo." Duo made some undefiable noise in his throat and Heero frowned. Calmly he sat down on the small loveseat type thing across the table. "What are you thinking about?"
Cobalt eyes watched as a pale hand grabbed the cup, eyes never leaving the falling water. "How even after three years of peace, the rain is still trying to wash away all the blood. How the heavens still weap." Duo whispered, blowing on the hot substance in the cup. "How lucky I am. I not only lived but I found happiness in a time of bloodshed." Duo took a drink.
Heero sat in silence, watching Duo as he watched the rain. "I will never understand you on nights like these." He muttered, earning a light chuckle from Duo. Heero blinked when Duo stood.
Duo walked over to the loveseat and sat down next to Heero. Drawing his feet up, he snuggled into Heero's side, careful not to spill his drink.
Heero turned his nose into Duo's bangs. He pressed a light kiss to his forehead as one of his arms came to wrap around the smaller frame. Duo made a noise of content as he burrowed farther into Heero's side seeking the never ending warmth.
"I love you." Duo whispered.
Heero pressed another kiss into Duo's hair. "I know." He murmured, one hand drifted down to tilt Duo's head back. When Cobalt clashed with Violet, he smiled gently. "I love you." He whispered hotly over Duo's lips. "I'm not going anywhere."
Duo pushed himself up, the cup rolled across the deck, his lips pressed firmly against Heero's. "Again." He whispered.
"I'm not going anywhere."
Duo pushed him back down on the loveseat. "Promise?" Duo murmured, pressing down into the warmth that was Heero.
"Yes." He whispered, pulling Duo down to met his lips again.
