After the President finished talking to Mrs. Morello and Donna said goodbye, she turned to the President.
"Thank you, Sir." She said softly. "Thank you for taking the time to talk her, it meant a lot to her. It meant a lot to me. I know how busy you are."
The President smiled. "Donna, I wanted to do it. She seems like she was really special."
"She was." Donna said with a wide smile. "She was the best. I meant what I told her, she's the reason I'm here."
"Then we're all very grateful to her." The President said. "Because we're all very lucky to have you with us."
Donna blushed. "I don't know about that... I mean, I'm just an assistant."
"No, you're more than that." The President corrected. "You're a very valuable part of this team. You do a job that none of us would want, or could do, you keep Josh in line."
Donna laughed. "I suppose that is true."
"Yes it is." The President told her. "I know no one says it very often, but you are a valuable member of this team."
"Thank you." Donna said, with tears in her eyes. "I know how lucky I am to be working here, with all these wonderful people. It's more than I ever imagined, I would do. More than most people expected of me."
She paused for a moment.
"Most people expected me to either get a job and stay in Madison or to get married and stay home and raise my kids. Most likely the last one." Donna told him. "I think I would have ended up doing that if not for Mrs. Morello. She always told me that I could do more than that, I had the potential to break away from the stereotype and do something more with my life. And because of her, I have. I'm glad I got a chance to thank her for that."
"So am I." The President told her.
Donna smiled and leaned over and kissed his cheek. "Thank you, Mr. President." She told him.
"You're welcome, Donna." The President told her.
Donna smiled one last time, before turning to go. "I'm gonna go find Josh now, Sir, if thatÕs alright."
"Okay, you go do that." The President said, smiling as he watched her go.
The End
