As much as I wish I owned these characters, I don't: They are J.K. Rowling's. I hope you enjoy this, comment if you like or if you don't like. Whatever floats your boat. Thanks for reading it!
It's love from a distance…
Belonging
Draco Malfoy wants to belong.
But his name and his face and what he stands for stops him from doing so.
Harry Potter wants to belong.
But his name and his forehead and what he has survived stop him from doing so.
Draco has his posse, the people with peas for brains. But they make him seem smarter, and normal people don't put up with him anyway.
Harry has many admirers. He has two best friends, but they haven't had the pressure of the world on them since birth like he has. He knows they can't relate, which he is fine with, but he is tired of having people look always an inch above his eyes.
Draco is supposed to be mean. He needs to make fun of other people, laugh at their faults (because he doesn't have any), and never offer any help. He has to turn his nose up at friendly gestures and mock those less fortunate.
Harry is supposed to be nice. He needs to be modest and never remember his accomplishments. He has to accept the faults (because he is full of them), and always offer a hand. He has to welcome assistance and be one of those less fortunate.
So Harry and Draco decided to not belong together. They become acquaintances. They say hello to each other in the hallways but don't stop to talk.
Draco wants to be more than just acquaintances, but he doesn't want to pester. He is afraid of losing Harry, the most interesting person he has ever met.
Harry still wants to fit in; he still wants a mother and father to come home to. But this is who Harry is, and he can't change it.
Draco wants people to treat him like a normal person, not to wrinkle their nose up and frown when he walks by. He wants his father to be proud of him.
Harry asks Draco, "Don't you ever just wish you fit in?"
And Draco nods his head. "Yeah." He agrees. "All the time."
But he doesn't really mean it. Sure, he doesn't like the way he is treated, but deep down inside he doesn't want to be normal.
He doesn't want to be normal because being different allows him to be friends with Harry.
And so not a day goes by without Harry wishing he belonged.
And not a day goes by without Draco being glad he doesn't.
