Brittany understands, deep down, that what they have is purely physical. It started out freshman year, as only an experiment; something neither of them had ever tried. It had been fun, teasing crushes with the details and bragging to friends about how edgy they were.
Until that one day in Spanish class when Santana had rolled her eyes, once again trying to get Brittany to remember the difference between ser and estar, and Brittany suddenly saw her in a completely different way: saw her like Puck saw her, like Rachel saw Finn, like Finn saw Quinn. Did most crushes happen this fast?
Then again, she realized later, it hadn't happened that fast. It had happened a long time ago, but had gone unnoticed until now.
It's just a game to Santana. Just something to do on days when they're bored, or when they've had too many Appletinis and watched too much Sex and the City. Brittany understands that.
But it's only an understanding. Not necessarily a surrender.
