Artemis leaned back into the seat of the airplane, thinking about how he had managed to get himself into this position in the first place. Holly was still fretting about the apartment they'd (she'd) picked, and attempting to keep a signal with Foaly on some sort of device Artemis didn't even bother to identify. The kid behind his seat was kicking quite viciously, to add into the bucket of agitation that was starting to overflow. He stared out the window tiredly, wishing he'd never said what he'd said when Holly asked a question that always had him hooked once it was asked.
"Do you want to play a game, Artemis?"
Holly kicked her legs gently at the table's leg. Artemis had always scolded her for doing this, but it was becoming a habit. Today was the last time Holly would be at his house for two months. She usually comes over at least two times a month for at least a couple hours. She was to go back home for a mission in two and a half hours today. It was always somewhat sad to have Holly leave just as soon she came over every visit, but Artemis never brought it up.
"It depends," he replied. "What kind of game?" She smiled. "Truth or dare, maybe?" He didn't say anything at first. Did she really just suggest playing truth or dare to him? She was smiling that not-really-innocent smile, staring at him, still kicking the table, and waiting for an answer. He was starting to realise he wasn't given an actual choice, he will play truth or dare.
"What a childish thing to suggest," Artemis remarked, though slightly amused at her frown when he didn't give a simple "yes" or "no". "C'mon," she mumbled. "you could just answer with an actual answer, Fowl."
He sat there. This could end badly. But he always got a turn to ask her things too, right?
Right?
Artemis sat down at the love-seat and crossed his legs. "Alright, I'll play your game, Short."
Yes. She's so going to do it. She is soooo going to do it.
"Alright, truth or dare?" He pondered for a second, but Holly knew what he was going to say anyways, so she didn't mind.
"Dare."
Okay, so maybe she didn't know what he was going to say. She went ahead and jumped to her dare she'd planned with pride. "I dare you to...go to New York." Artemis blinked. "Why exactly w-"
"I wasn't done. I dare you to go to New York, for seven months, and go to a public high school."
As soon as the words "public high school" left Holly's lips, Artemis nearly choked on air. "Public high school? You're joking."
"Nope."
"I'm not going."
Holly nearly laughed at his expression, which was twisted with absolute horror. "Do you even know how Truth or Dare works, Arty?"
Yes. Yes he did.
And that is how Artemis ended up in an airplane, to Manhattan, in America, to go to high school. Publicly.
He isn't usually one to use street slang, but right now he could definitely say his life sucked.
TT: BTDubs, Arty's totally watching MLP:FIM on the plane. Totally. I need to refresh my AF memory. And write chappie two. But not tonight. It's almost 10-30, and Homestuck fanfiction and I are currently buddies. And tell me what you guys think. tuxedoTerrors out!
