Disclaimer: Neither Jace nor any other products of Cassandra Clare's brilliant mind belong to me. Unfotunately.

My first fanfiction on this site (even if it's just a oneshot, and a short one at that)! Hope you like it!

This is happening (well, at least in this fanfiction...) in chapter 6, Bad Blood of City of Glass, just after Jace broke the painted window at the Penhallow's.

Apologize (Fix Things)

He hadn't wanted to hurt her. Of course he hadn't.

How could he?

Jace knew she was a strong person. A person able to fend for herself. He had known it from the beginning; when their eyes first clashed in Pandemonium club. Maybe that had even been the reason he felt drawn to her in the first place: that a mundane – a weak, little mundane – could be strong, could be a fighter.

And all her strength was caused by love.

'To Love is to destroy, to be loved is to be the one destroyed.'

How often had the voice in the back of his head repeated those words… Over and over again. But instead of getting clearer, their meaning seemed to fade away a little bit more with each repetition.

Yes, Clary was strong, but there were things – like the Clave being after her powers – her talent for getting out of dangerous situations wouldn't save her from.

And in a few weeks his Clary would be dead.

Jace sighed and looked out of the broken window.

Not that she was his Clary anymore, not after what he had done.

'You destroyed her!' Isabelle's voice echoed in his mind.

Jace looked down at the shattered glass on the street, ten meters below.

'To love is to destroy…' He could hear the sharp voice of his father again, reprimanding.

Jace just hoped, he'd be able to fix things again.

Before he turned around to face Isabelle's and Alec's reproachful faces, he traced the sharp edges of the broken, colorfully painted window with his index finger. Blood seeped out of the small laceration.

'…to be loved is to be the one destroyed.'

He hardly felt the pain.

I know it's really short, but I hope you like it anyway.

English is not my first language, so I wouldn't be surprised about mistakes...

Anyway: I would love to hear from you guys. So... leave a review?
