The Girl and the Grimoire
Prologue
Tower of London 2011:
Buffy threw an ax through a hooded figure. The figure threw a fireball in return. She barely missed it.
"What am I fighting Will?" Buffy shouted.
"Some sort of portal demon," Willow said as she threw a ball of energy at it.
"You're losing power, slayer," the demon whispered and bounced the ball of energy back at her.
Buffy dodged it. "Nope, just patience."
"You're being forgotten in the hearts and minds of those who once adored you."
Willow began to chant and golden ropes emerged from her fingers. They whipped around the demon.
"By all means, vanquish me," it said. "Return me to my dimension where I shall see you soon."
It disappeared in a puff of dark dust. The dust spreads throughout the chamber. Buffy and Willow began to cough.
"Do you have any idea what that demon was talking about?" Buffy asked.
"No, maybe Giles does."
They left the tower and the first thing they noticed was that the sky had turned blood-red. The next thing they notice was they weren't in London anymore. There was nothing but hills of gray dirt that smelled of sulfur.
"Where are we?" Buffy asked.
"I don't know," Willow said.
"Buffy?"
They turned around to see Dawn, Xander, and Giles approaching them, followed by the rest of the slayers.
"Where are we?" Dawn asked.
"I don't know," Buffy said.
"Giles doesn't either," Xander said.
"I wish I could say I did," Giles said. "But I have a theory."
"He thinks we're in a hell dimension."
Angel and Spike approached the group.
"And I think he's right,"
"You are in the worst hell dimension imaginable."
The hooded figured appeared high above them.
"One where you are forgotten for all of time."
Chapter One:
Brookside College NY, Present Day:
Leah Sorento finished putting the last book away. She checked her watch. Perfect timing. She pulled off her lanyard and went to the back room where signed out.
"Have a good day, Leah," the librarian said on her way out.
"You too Grace," she said.
"Oh hey," she said. "Before I forget. We just got a new batch of donations. The staff has gone through and found the valuable stuff. You're welcome to pick through it."
"Thanks," she said.
Leah went to the processing room and saw the pile in the corner waiting to be thrown out. It was usual mix old text books and magazines. She dug around a little more and found a leather-bound book. It had no name on the spine but there was a pentagram etched into the cover. She opened it and found the title:
Willow's Grimoire
In the years Leah had worked there, no one had ever donated a spell book. She quickly put it in her bag and left the building. Leah wondered who would donate a spell book and whether they actually believed in magic.
