"You still care about her don't you?"
It got quiet after the blonde boy uttered those words. For what seemed to be a long time they only stared at each other, they dim light setting the mood that seemed to have fallen over the two boys. The tension was as thick as the bond they had, with just a few words it could break.
Newt's heart was pounding, it felt like it was going to burst any second. And it could to, if Thomas said what he thought he would, but that would mean burst in a horrible way. So for the last time Newt looked at him, really looked at him, because maybe it was the last time he would be able to. He devoured every inch of Thomas and plastered into his mind, so he would never forget. The way his brown hair swooped at the front and the way his brown eyes seemed more golden when the dim light shone at them. From his broad shoulders and sturdy build down to even his feet. And as Newt stared upon the face that looked so tired and the eyes that blinded him by raw emotion, he started to get angry. He got angry because he knew what Thomas was going to say. He knew that in the end he had to turn away, and maybe not look. He knew that this was it, this was the last time he was going to be able to look at Thomas like this, before Thomas went ahead and ruined it. And Newt wasn't going to have it. He wasn't about to lose Thomas to Teresa.
"I-I mean-", Thomas started to stutter but Newt wouldn't let him finish. With one swift move Newt grabbed the hem of Thomas shirt and pushed him against the wall.
"Don't lie to me!" Newt screamed into Thomas face, which was surprisingly calm giving the circumstances. They were now only a few millimeters apart, their noses just a breath away from touching each other. His heart was now racing, but now also because of anger.
But Thomas didn't say anything else. He just stood there, pushed against the wall by Newts slender body and their faces a few millimeters away, staring into Newts chocolate brown eyes. Newt didn't know what to do, this wasn't what he had expected. He'd expected Thomas to scream back at him and fight like he always did, but he didn't and once again newt could feel himself falling deeper and deeper as he stared into Thomas eyes, so full with emotion that Newt couldn't grasp, what did it mean?
"You love her, don't you?"
It came out as barely a whisper and Newt let go of Thomas shirt to rest his arm and head on the wall, defeated by this sudden realization, even if he'd known it all along.
"Answer me!" Newt screamed, angrily. He was tired of Thomas dragging this out, twisting the knife further into his heart. It was in that moment that Newt seemed something change in Thomas eyes, he now looked angry instead of disconnect.
"Do you really think-" but Thomas never finished his question because suddenly he pushed himself against Newt and their lips crashed together in a firework of emotion. It took a while before newt realized what was happening and until then he was the one to just stand there, helpless to what to do. But when he became aware of the face that Thomas was kissing him something clicked inside of him and he once again slammed Thomas against the wall, deepening the kiss even further.
And just like that, in the blink of an eye, all the unspoken emotions and anger were released between the pair of them. All the weeks, and almost a year, full of sexual tension that Newt thought only he was the one to notice, exploded.
"I love you, you shuck-head" Thomas whispered breathlessly, pulling away from their kiss. Newt couldn't help but smile.
"Yeah, I think I got that"
