A/N: Hey guys! The last chapter of coming undone will be up soon but right now here's a little one scene I wrote in the spirit of Mother's Day (even though I'm a day late) Enjoy!
"So Reagan, you got big plans for the weekend?" Eddie asked as they began their Friday tour.
"Bout like every weekend, working tomorrow, mass and family dinner, then a late your Sunday. You?"
"I'm going to visit my mom for Mother's Day! I find it hard to believe the Reagans don't do anything special"
"That's one holiday I don't have to worry about" Jamie said as Eddie remembered his mom had passed.
"What about for Linda and Erin?"
"They're not my mother, that's for Nikki and the boys to handle"
"You could still do something nice for them"
"Like what? I already am nice to them"
"Oh come on you could get them a gift or something"
"For what having my niece and nephews?"
"You love your niece and nephews!"
"Yeah I do so I give them presents on their birthday and Christmas"
"That doesn't mean you can't celebrate Linda and Erin on Mother's Day!"
"Fine what do you suggest Mrs Master of Mother's Day"
"During lunch break I'll take you to this really cute little place where you can pick something up"
Jamie rolled his eyes and sighed "so which one of your favorite restaurants is next to this cute little place you know. There's gotta be some motive"
"Okay it happens to be next to this taco shop but that's totally unrelated"
"I'm sure it is" Jamie laughed
After scarfing down several tacos-which Jamie had to admit were really good- Eddie dragged him into a boutique that carried all sorts of house things and girly trinkets. Eddie immediately began oohing and ahhing over various little treasures. Jamie on the other hand stopped at the first display and picked up a candle.
"How bout this?" He asked holding it up to show Eddie
"Seriously Jamie? The first thing you see?"
"It's nice!" Jamie said defensively
Eddie gave him a glare that told him he better try a little harder.
"What about this?" Eddie asked holding up some upscale kitchen towels.
"Kitchen towels? Yeah nothing says Mother's Day like cleaning supplies 'thanks for being my slave'"
"They're not for cleaning!" Eddie shot back getting frustrated with her partners ignorance
"Then what do you do with it?" Jamie asked, genuinely confused. He might be a Harvard grad but when it comes to the world of girly gizmos he was clueless.
"You put it on a towel rack or on the Handle of the oven like a decoration"
"I've lived in my own place for a pretty good chunk of time now and never have I ever decorated my oven handle" Jamie complained.
"Okay whatever let's find something else." Eddie said
After perusing the store a couple more minutes Jamie decided he would just agree to the next thing Eddie suggested. Anything to escape this torture. When she didn't suggest anything he got worried.
"How about some of this all natural handcrafted hand cream?" He suggested in an attempt to get the ball rolling again rather than a serious proposal
"That could work" Eddie said without looking up from the jewelry display. Her eyes were fixed on a little turning rack.
"Jamie come look at this it's perfect" she suddenly squealed
"What?"
"This necklace, it says 'family first' if that's not the Reagan family motto I don't know what is! And look they're not too expensive!" Jamie looked at the dainty gold bar on small gold chain.
"I love it. Let's buy it and get back to work."
"Reagan" Eddie said bluntly rolling her eyes at his overwhelming disinterest in this whole process.
"I think they're nice"
"You're being honest?" She asked
"Yeah it's adorable. You think they'll wear it?"
"It's not too big so I think Linda could wear it even with her scrubs and Erin could definitely wear it with practically anything"
"Perfect then let's get it and go" he said already halfway to the register.
Eddie stood by as Jamie checked out. She couldn't help but notice as the girls at the counter flirted with him. She sighed, she should've know better than to bring him in a place like this. Girls just melt for his baby blue eyes and the uniform gives him the whole heroic vibe. Jamie flashed his beautiful smile at the girls before following Eddie back out to the car.
On Sunday the Reagan family dinner was per usual. Ever since Mary died they hadn't really gone all out for Mother's Day. That first Mother's Day was difficult on everyone and after that they never really got back into the swing of things. Linda and Erin understood and never seemed to mind. To Jamie's knowledge they always celebrated separately with their kids. Everyone finished their meal when Henry announced, "today we have a special Mother's Day treat. Your grandmothers old recipe for carrot cake. It's been passed down from generation to generation from all sorts of your ancestral mothers being perfected over years"
"Yum let's have some" Danny said
Henry got up to retrieve the cake.
"While you're getting that let me grab my own special Mother's Day treat" Jamie said
"Your Mother's Day treat?" Nikki asked as Jamie got up and ran out to his car to grab the bags. When he came back all eyes were on him as he placed a bag in front of Linda and one in front of Erin.
"Happy Mother's Day" he said
"Why thank you Jamie this is very thoughtful" Linda acknowledged
"Yes thank you Jamie. It's very thoughtful." Erin said suspiciously eying her brother.
"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" Jamie asked
"Oh I dunno maybe cuz in the twenty years Erin's been a mother you've never done something like this" Danny dead panned
"Well maybe it's time for a change" Jamie said defensively
"But why now?" Henry asked. Franked stayed quiet watching this interaction between his children
"I don't know! Eddie just told me it would be a good idea!" He defended
"Ahhh there it is. So this was eddies idea" Danny laughed
"What's wrong with that?"
"Nothing nothing" Danny said with a smirk as he took a drink. Everyone eyed Jamie curiously
"What? I can take advice from my partner" Jamie laughed innocently
"Did you take advice from Renzulli?" Danny asked
"Or Vinny?" Henry asked having had insight into that partnerships complicated relationship
"Yeah, at times" Jamie asserted
When the family continued to give him questioning glances Jamie continued, "well there it is no good deed goes unpunished. Just open your gifts"
"Oh Jamie it's beautiful!" Linda exclaimed
"Family first" Erin read off the necklace
"Amen to that" Henry added
"That was nice of you Jamie" frank added he decided to throw his youngest a compliment to make up for all the teasing
"Thanks, Eddie thought they were nice" he immediately regretted bringing her up again.
"Oh so she not only suggested it she helped you pick it out! Spending a lot of time with that partner of yours" Danny exclaimed
"Is he ever. Ya know-" Erin started knowingly thinking back to that conversation in her office just over a year ago when Jamie asked her if he should pursue his relationship with Eddie.
She was interrupted by Jamie who exclaimed "Erin!" They exchanged glances that told her not to go there right now but those glances didn't go unnoticed.
"Well I think Eddie has nice taste. It's nice a small so I can wear it with my scrubs" Linda said trying to divert the attention from Jamie. The rest of the family followed her lead and dropped the subject.
A few hours later Jamie was starting tour with Eddie.
"So how was your Mother's Day?" He asked
"It was nice. I met my mom at this quaint little tea room outside the city and we had a nice lunch."
"Sounds nice"
"Yeah, so how was yours, did they like the necklaces?"
Jamie laughed thinking back to the afternoon's events. "Yeah I think they did. The liked bustin my chops about getting a present even more -well that's mostly just Danny- but even still. I think they liked it"
Before they could say more a call came over the air "all units be advised, we have a 1018 in process at the corner of 2nd and 47th"
"Twelve David, show us responding" Jamie said into the radio
"Well I think it was a sweet gesture" Eddie said about the necklaces
Jamie took a look at his partner and smiled. "Yeah, yeah I think you're right" he said as he turned on the lights and sped toward the crime scene.
