Translucent
The sharp pain intensified throughout his body each time he took a new breath. Laying in a pool of blood, Zack Fair starred deliriously into the sky as his comrade, Cloud Strife, hung over his mortally wounded body. His body temperature began to drastically decrease; everything felt cold as ice. Zack's mind was beginning to fog becoming numb. Struggling to find warmth, he strained to configure his last memory and image of her. Keeping the picture locked into his mind, Zack closed his eyes trying to recollect his thoughts of Aerith.
89 Letters.
He felt his body loosing control drifting softly against the rain.
"Hello?"
"An angel?" he remembered was his initial question when he first met her. Zack felt a weak smile purse upon his face.
Short moments passed and slowly Zack started regaining awareness of his surroundings finding himself in the church, standing near the flower bed.
She laid there asleep in her creations. He remembered she would tell him how, occasionally, she would fall asleep tending to the flowers because the scent was so intoxicating; it relaxed her like a lullaby.
Zack felt translucent as he leaned over the delicate girl. He ran his fingers through her hair, but could not feel its' silky texture. All feeling was lost in his fingertips, and now the lack of sensation was traveling through his arm.
"Aerith," he whispered. "I'm sorry I was away for so long."
The years went by so quickly, all four of them.
"But, now I'm here with you." He said cheerfully cuddled next to the girl, wrapping his arms around her waist and shoulder.
"I didn't get to read all your letters."
88 more to go.
He tried to touch her face, but she swatted it away as if a fruit fly was buzzing around her.
Zack grinned. "Okay, I guess you knew it was only one letter."
He felt her breath a long sigh, as if she was accepting his defeat.
His body was desensitizing more, he could feel it spread throughout his chest. His skin was loosing color as well, becoming transparent.
"There's nothing to fear now, Aerith, I won't leave your side." He whispered into her ear.
The girl turned in her sleep and was now facing him. Zack studied her beautiful features as she slept in peace; how her lips were the perfect tone of pink, and how her hair gently fell against her neckline. He tried to kiss her mouth softly, but again felt nothing; the loss of feeling spread to his lips.
"I'm here." Zack said as he wrapped his arms around her tight; he didn't want to leave her again.
His eyes were fogging, and he was loosing sight of Aerith.
"I read your wishes, I wanted to spend more time with you too." He said as he slowly closed his eyes still imaging her sleeping face in his memory. He could swear he saw her lips move to a smile.
"It won't be long until we're together again, Aerith...when you wake up..." He softly trailed off whispering as he drifted into a deep, eternal sleep.
