A/N: My first drabble for COTT. Yay. This was written out of pure boredom about a year ago (It was posted on the LJ community, but that place is dead so no one saw it). So I decided to post it here. Please remember it's my first drabble for this fandom, so don't yell at me about how bad it is. Also, it's about Atlanta (favorite character) She's 10, so you all know. It's an AU. That blurb up there is random, so don't pay much attention to it. Just read the story. And review. That's important too…
It was one of those lazy days of summer, the ones where you know that you're obligated to do nothing, so therefore do nothing but sit around until parents chase you outside.
Such was the case with Atlanta and Christie. The two had sat around for three hours until Mrs. Fredrick (or she who makes the best brownies in the neighborhood) shooed them outside. This was how the two of them ended out in the forest that served as the universal back yard for the block, bored out of their skulls.
The two of them sat (or lay) on a large rock in a clearing. Atlanta sat with her knees pulled up to her chest, poking an odd moss formation with a stick; Christie lay on the rock, staring up at the cloudless blue sky.
"We need to do something," Atlanta said, jabbing the moss again.
"Yeah…" Christie answered dazedly.
Suddenly, she sat up. "We could have a race!" she suggested. "First one to that tree. Loser has to buy the winner chocolate."
Christie pointed towards a plain looking spruce tree a long distance away. Atlanta looked up at it, a small smile spreading across her face. "You're on!" she said.
Both girls got off the rock and stood in front if it, resembling -as best as a ten year old can- professional runners taking their positions.
"Ready, set, go!!" Christie yelled. They both took off running at full speed.
A few steps in, it happened. Atlanta was flying. Or at least that's what it felt like. Her feet still touched the ground, but she could hardly feel it. The world rushed by her. She could see Christie getting further and further away, and the tree get closer and closer.
She was there. 30 seconds into the race, and she had already won. Somewhere in the back of her mind, a logical voice reasoned that there was no way that was possible, that the tree and rock were too far apart. No human being could get from the rock to the tree in forty seconds.
But Atlanta didn't care about that at the moment. All she cared about was that she had won, and that Christie hadn't. With a sigh of content, she sat down beside the tree and waited.
Christie arrived at the tree about 40 seconds later. "How'd…how'd you get here so fast?" she asked, panting for breath.
"I ran."
"No person can run that fast!!" Christie exclaimed. "You cheated!"
Atlanta shrugged. "Maybe I'm just faster than you." She suggested.
Christie glared at her, then said aloud, "I'm gonna check this out."
She began, in true Christie fashion, to examine the stretch of land which Atlanta had run on, checking it for anything that could have made her friend go faster (of course, there was nothing, but you couldn't tell her that). Atlanta watched her go, yelling out after her "My favorite chocolate is Aero!!"
So…there y'are. My first COTT drabble. This is part of a drabble collection I'm (hopefully) going to write for Atlanta (but don't hold me to that). I just wanted to post it here so people can tell me if it's good or not. So, review and leave me love.
