It was over.

The evil defeated, the Twilight Realm sealed off, the mirror shattered, the castle just ruins from an explosion. Along with it all, a hero was left alone, without his shadow, his meaning, his destiny and most of all without his other half. When Midna left, she took with her his wolf form, a form he had grown to love during his adventure. It was his escape in a sense. Nobody knew him like that, he could wander without adoring eyes following him. He could forget emotions that his feral brain could no longer process and he could live for the instinct.

But it was gone now.

Now he could only wander with no aim to hasten his steps, no goal to reach and with nobody to protect, he was just a shell of the Hero they all rejoiced. Could he really ever settle down after all that he had been through? After all the vast unexplored land he had trod? Even after all the horrors he had seen, did they expect him to live peacefully? not haunted by the ghosts of his past, memories he so desperately might want to relive?

Yes, yes they did.

As Epona cantered tiredly through the Faron gates and past Coro's house, Link thought all this over. This was his life now, a goat herder once more, a living memory of the Hero of both worlds. He had to resign himself to this, for he could no longer follow the scent or howl out the ancient tunes on stones forgotten. No longer wag his tail when pleased or dig for hearts when injured. If only she had left the crystal behind...

But she didn't.

Link so desperately wanted something more from his life, something to give it that hint of sweet adventure, that he almost thought he heard Ordona calling him to his spring again as he rode by. But it was just a memory whispering on the breeze. The sweet warm breeze of Ordon. He leant down to rub his mares neck and he couldn't help but whisper to the dawn and anything listening.

"Will Ordon ever be my home again?" and as he sighed he could have sworn he heard the bushes rustle a reply.

" The lone wolf has come home. "

AUTHORS NOTES

Just a little thing about the way he'd come home. not really inspired to write more, so I probably will leave this and not use this as a drift in a bigger piece.
