Like droplets of gold, the stars painted the black cloudless empyrean. It was the first thing he saw when he opened his eyes. Slowly sitting up, he took in the wide open field as his hands slowly fondled the verdant ground beneath him. It was then he realized he wasn't in his room anymore.
Where am I?
"Hey."
He looked behind, startled by the presence of his fellow ninja.
"Shikamaru? What's going on?" His friend shrugged and sat down beside him.
"Nothing really." He replied curtly, as if he were completely unfazed by the strange situation before them.
"Are you sure…?" He asked again. There was no reply. Instead, two bottles of beer appeared in Shikamaru's hands.
"Want?"
"Eh? Ah-?" But before he could protest, the bottle of beer was shoved in front of his face. Naruto hesitantly grasped the unknown chemical substance in his hand and took a small, languid sip.
Not bad.
He took three more gulps, almost forgetting where he was in the first place. After chugging down a few more drops, he placed the now empty bottle beside him. His eyes wandered around, once again taking in the green pasture he found himself in. he felt a tug in his heart. Something about this place seemed off, but he couldn't quite place it.
Where am I…? The words quietly slipped out of his mouth. He could vaguely hear his friend sighing behind him saying, "No need to be sentimental about it. You're just dreaming."
Dreaming. And it him. This was just a dream. He only created this reality. That would mean that his real body is still in his room, in his apartment, in Konoha at a time when the Fourth Shinobi War recently ended. This is just a dream.
"Shik-" Before he could even start his sentence, Naruto saw no one but the same green pasture him. There was no trace of the man anywhere, not even the bottle of beer he brought with him.
"Shikamaru…?" He was gone. He looked around and saw no empty bottle of beer beside the place he sat on. He looked around again, hoping to find something other than the green pasture that stilled on front of him but there was no sign of anyone or anything… not even a trace or remembrance of Konoha was seen. He wanted to give up but something about this place told him otherwise.
Naruto-kun... A soft, gentle voice echoed the field, breaking the silence.
"Hin-?"
"NARUTO!" a loud and boisterous noise pierced his ears. He blinked and before he knew it, the green pasture was gone. He was now standing in the streets in Konoha wearing nothing but his yellow boxers. His luck ran dry when he saw an angry Sakura running towards him.
"SHANAROO!" The pinkette screamed, lifting her fist at him. Horrified, Naruto quickly dodged he hit and swerved through the thick crowd of villagers, running…
And running…
And running… He didn't know how long he kept at it, but it didn't matter. Everything seemed to be a blur to him; the people, the houses, the sky, the clouds…
And then nothing.
Naruto-kun.
A/N: Random beginning, I know. But aren't dreams sometimes random? It's been too long since I've been on hiatus. I haven't officially come back yet to the Fanfiction World but I'm continuously reading and re-reading all the Naruto fanfics. Although I haven't kept up with the plot, I spoiled myself by reading the last two chapters of Naruto and it was… okay. I liked the ending and all, but it felt too fast. I haven't watched Naruto the Last movie yet nor have I totally watched the WHOLE Naruto series (both Naruto and the Shippuden) so I don't know what to say anything about it other than what I said. Anyways, read and review!
