Nothing…

It was a rainy night in Konoha, typical for June. And although the raindrops patted out a consistent metronome on the roof of the Konoha Performing Arts Centre, most of the children's music hit ears with an off-beat tempo. Anyway, parents clapped in encouragement.

After a pinkette finished scratching a shaky ballad from her violin, the intermediate musicians' turn to highlight the stage came forward. This put a waking start to a raven composer at the front.

With lazy eyes, he watched a tall blond saunter to the Steinway.

"At least he's got experience to his act."

He sat on the bench and began to play.

The raven dropped his jaw in astonishment. The piece was familiar…

"My arrangement? How…"

Bravely the blond massaged the keys, his inner metronome ticking to his heart. He cared nothing about what the audience did or how they looked. He simply entertained.

"He's perfecting my perfection…"

The rain even enjoyed the instance; it fell rhythmically on the rooftops of the building. It created the gloomy atmosphere the raven composer had intended during the composition.

And with a final touch, the glorious sound had ended itself. The blond faced his standing ovation and bowed, still unaware of the idol standing and applauding with the greatest emotion.

The Centre was nearly vacant after the reception, except for the teachers, students, and parents. The blond stood in the practice room talking with his teacher.

"Naruto, you've done well tonight," said a silver-haired man.

The blond beamed. "It was nothing, Kakashi-sensei. I just played what I felt. I wish Sasuke Uchiha was here to hear me."

"But I should tell you something." Kakashi paused.

Naruto winced. "Like what? I graduated and won't be your student anymore? "

"That and you had a surprise in the audience." With that statement, he turned and left Naruto alone in the room by himself.

'What's that supposed to mean?'

Naruto turned to grab his coat off the piano behind him. Upon putting it on, he discovered a deep red flower on the black and white keys. A rose.

And tied to the stem was a note.

"I know I play great, but who would leave me a rose?" He picked it up to examine the attachment.

It read:

Dearest Naruto,

My dearest apologies for not congratulating you person. However, upon my attendance of this display of musicality, I have found much more than talent in you. I have come to find greatness. The way you executed my Rainy Monogatari composition touched my heart—enough to allow me to invite you to attend my school of music and become a student of mine. I'm sure you would know where to find it.

Sincerely, The One and Only

Sasuke Uchiha

Naruto lost all breath and shed tears of joy. His inspiration, his dream had invited him to be his student.
