"Aya-chan!" I called through the window as Aya hoisted herself onto Moggle. "Don't do that! You'll break him!"
"Bye, Ren!" She grinned at me. "See you at Frizz's place!"
Groaning, I close the window and turn to Hiro, who's sitting on his couch and editing some footage for his newest story. "Your sister..." I mutter, shaking my head to myself. I've never told anyone this, but Aya makes my heart beat a little faster. She's gorgeous for one thing, even though she's only fifteen years old. Aya's also sweet and encouraging, and just a tad bit clumsy, but in a cute way. Frizz is so lucky to have her.
"What about my sister?" Hiro asks absentmindedly, eyes focused on his wallscreen.
"Nothing," I say, reaching for my latest tech-creation. I unscrew the top and insert the new disk. My hands need to be busy at all times. Especially when my mind is in other places. And right now, my mind is on Aya Fuse, the third-most-popular person in the city. I could never be with her. Well, we don't have that much of a difference in ambition (I'm in the top fifty), but Aya has never been interested in me. She has an awesome, beautiful boyfriend her own age, so why would she want to hook up with her older brother's style-missing best friend? I can't- I shouldn't like her.
Hiro switched off his eyescreen. "I can't believe she's with that bubblehead."
"Frizz isn't so bad."
"Frizz is a loser. He's not good enough."
"No, he's a good guy." I said, straining not to feel jealous of Frizz. "I mean, he's nice...and attractive..."
Hiro's eyes turned into small suspicious slits.
"W-what?" I stammered.
"You think he's attractive?"
"I guess. But not in a boyfriend way. " I walked over and plopped onto the couch beside him, closing my hand around his reassuringly. Then I gazed at Hiro's sharp-jawed face, trying to think of something to say.
"Psshhh...what's that supposed to mean?"
"I don't like anyone else." Lies, lies, lies.
"You better not."
"You know, Hiro, I'm not in the closet like you."
Hiro twitched.
"And I'm not gay either. I'm bi!" I proclaim.
"So? That's...that's not the point. "
"And the point is...?"
"The point is...the point is..." Hiro fumbled for words, eyebrows frowning. "Oh, CRAP!" He suddenly leaned forward and ended the conversation by pressing his lips against my own. His lips were warm and moist, and I had to admit that Hiro was pretty good at mouth-to-mouth, like he always was. I gave in to his embrace, letting him kiss me for a moment before he pulled away.
We were both breathing hard, Hiro more than me. The room was eerily quiet. I could hear the buzzing from the hovercam I had left on the desk, still half-taken apart. Finally Hiro broke the silence.
"You want to go to Frizz's place?" he said casually.
"Sure."
Hiro didn't make anymore jealous remarks. He seemed to have gotten over it. Now, if Hiro ever found out about my feelings for Aya, that's one thing he would never get over. And that is yet another reason why I shouldn't be dreaming about her, not even a little.
